We were all stupid kids when we read those books. The way it was spelled never entered our interest. Now that we are adults, we just assume it was spelled in a normal way. We are used to names ending in "stein". If you saw how it was spelled without the whole conspiracy being told to you, you would probably just do a little note in your head "huh, it's spelled stain" and move on with your life. It's only a thing because it was reintroduced to us through this conspiracy.
This is a really good point. I don't think I have it anymore. Because usually I would take the time to remember the word. I stopped doing that when it became so easy to google a word.
