Donald Trump's travel expenses in 10 weeks cost US taxpayers as much as Barack Obama spent in two years

even though he donated his salary away, he have made way more than his salary by spending tax payer money on his golf club. Also by donating his salary he would get a tax break too. He's probably the first US president to actively profit on tax payer money while in office.

Every government official, especially in DC, "profits" off taxpayer money.
He's just taking it to the most extreme, and we allow it. By doing this he's pointing out a huge flaw in the system.
He's making systematic flaws obvious to us.

I think he's the first president doing it while in office.

you must have a really short memory
n/a Edogawa1983 2017-04-06
which president actually owns a business while in office?
n/a hungrybear1234 2017-04-06
which ones didn't?
n/a Edogawa1983 2017-04-06
none of them did while in office
Jimmy Carter had to sell his peanut farm.

One millisecond of research brings many results. Let's start with George Washington https://www.bloomberg.com/view/articles/2016-11-22/like-donald-trump-george-washington-had-business-interests

well, if George Washington did it....
n/a hungrybear1234 2017-04-06
...then you should go back and correct your record in your original post.

Damn man. Didn't mean for you to have to do all the lifting. Was at work

Does Dick Cheney and Halliburton count? He was VP, buy still.
n/a Edogawa1983 2017-04-06
he wasn't VP from 2000-2008
n/a NarwhalStreet 2017-04-06
But he was from 2001-2009? I don't get what distinction you are making.
n/a Edogawa1983 2017-04-06
Cheney resigned as CEO of Halliburton on July 25, 2000. As vice president, he argued that this step removed any conflict of interest

Edit: he's the first president you know of who is openly doing it.
There were many others, and just because their business wasn't publicly traded doesn't mean they weren't profiting.

That is literally not a source, that is Niamh McIntyre's OPINION
n/a meatduck12 2017-04-06
Nope, she cites actual statistics.
n/a gavypavl 2017-04-06
Literally none, claiming security detail costs more, when these guys are on a salary is, is stupid beyond belief.
n/a meatduck12 2017-04-06
Nowhere does she say the security detail costs more. She says getting that security detail entrance into the exclusive resort costs more.
n/a gavypavl 2017-04-06
Awesome, source that claim then.........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
Ill wait
n/a meatduck12 2017-04-06
I was actually wrong, but my overall point remains correct. It seems to say that the security detail has more people in it on trips outside the White House, which makes plenty of sense.
n/a jdotg 2017-04-06
It is estimatedIt is estimatedIt is estimated
n/a meatduck12 2017-04-06
Yes, because releasing the actual cost broken down would be a terrible political move for Trump. Why would he just randomly tell everyone how much the trips cost?
n/a jdotg 2017-04-06
So to report this as some grand fact, when an estimation could be inaccurate. Not to mention its a political hit piece, no bias in the article. That leads me to believe hey it may be wrong. Id like to see how they arrived at their estimation.
n/a meatduck12 2017-04-06
So would I.
n/a gavypavl 2017-04-06
About literally everything you claimed.
THE SHOCK was none
n/a WrathfulClarity 2017-04-06
It says estimation and provides no explanation for such estimations.

"also by donating his salary he would get a tax break" So does everyone who donates to charity, whats your point?
n/a jdotg 2017-04-06
No way a sitting president should be allowed to donate!
