How is it that so many government officials aka "public servants" have millions of dollars solely from politics and your average person doesn't think this is a problem?

idk its amazing, i deleted facebook after this election because people are so into picking their teams.

i truly feel there is no hope for recovering the logic of liberty.

This country will trade all freedoms for security, because most Americans are fucking idiots who can't think for themselves. They need someone to tell them what to do and how to live. The illusion of choice would be enough for most.

guns are scary and once a week martial arts class is encouraging violent patriarchy!!!!!

You forgot the sarcasm mark.

Americans don't have freedoms, they always had privileges that can be revoked anytime. Remember internment camps? America is the country for rich, they live, we slave.

Try traveling a bit being an america comes with a ton of freedom. Your passport if you could transfer it to someone from almost any other country would be worth millions. Go to a country like Thailand that is even well off for south east asia and someone will drive you around in their car all day for $30 and not charge you for fuel.

Globalization comes with many problems one of which is that $7.25 an hour minimum wage in most of the USA is still upper middle class for most of the world. Even the luxuries you get from that wage is higher than you will get in most parts of the world. Time as a commodity is rapidly dropping in value in first world countries as it meets competition from countries where time is worth far far less. On the other side services and physical products are increasing in value.

This is why the rich are so rich and why those working for wages are making less and less every year.

Minimum wage of 7.25 is not enough for people to survive in America (they literally starve), let alone provide any luxuries. Did you ever try to live on that wage? Companies that pay such miserable wages happen to be the most profitable companies in the world. Your argument is based on comparing standards of living between third world country and USA, 7.25 would go a longer way in Thailand because things are cheaper there. Basic necessities are much more expensive here, so that 7.25 (that's before taxes) is nothing.

Rich are getting richer in America, not because time is less valuable, but because there is widespread corruption which enables wealthy class to buy whatever they want. With diminishing of unions over time, workers lost their bargening power. Disappearing of unionized labor is directly ralated to stagnating and slipping wages. America was in the greatest shape when unions were strong. We are talking about 50's, 60's and 70's, during those decades a household could live well of one income. During those times, fast food jobs were mainly reserved for teenagers who wanted to makes some spending money. Today median age of fast food worker is 29 and they have to apply for public assistance just to survive. Germany faces same competition from countries like China, but unlike US, Germany protects it's industry and it's labor. Germans enjoy higher standard of living than Americans, unfortunately.

Majority of Americans are wage and debt slaves, too preoccupied with entertainment and sports to notice that they have been slaves for a while now.

I lived off that much in america for years and not at home with my parents. I spent $375 for a room in the city, ate rice and lentils lunch and dinner and oatmeal for breakfast $1.50 a day was my food budget. I went to trade school using city transit and after rent that was my largest expense. I did not have internet or a cell phone. I didn't qualify for food stamps because I was in school. I worked nights and weekends and did a 36 hour class load in trade school after I graduated I was able to get a job that paid $25 an hour and now am arguably rich.

But yes for about a year of my life I lived off minimum wage and it sucked but again the standard of living I had was considerably higher IMO than that of poorer countries I now have the luxury of visiting around the world. I enjoy traveling both to see the sites and experience different cultures but also to remember what it is like to live with less and still be happy.

The rich get richer like me because they know that the american economy is powerful and that the "poor" people you are talking about spend every dime they have on luxuries they take for granted. Those luxuries make people who sell said luxuries very, very rich.

They don't even really want the illusion of choice (most of them)

You think Reddit is any better?

Only slightly. I want reddit to die, but the platform is decent and I think the USA has needed this type of community conflict to break up gridlock

Don't get me wrong... I'm not saying Reddit is useless, but I don't really see how it's any better than Facebook. I think the only difference is the preference of anonymity among your IRL friends (definitely not anonymity from the US govt).

Both Reddit & Facebook manipulate content; allow shills; collect your data & know your preferences; allow you to distribute your ideas; limit your ideas; etc.

If Reddit would have just sued Correct the Record for tortious interference I think we'd be in a lot better position to 'break up gridlock'.

I have not been on FB in years but here's how Reddit is better. You don't get a feed from your family on the content that was in their vomit from the flu they had, photos of their kids you don't really care about, recipes or other who cares shit every time you log in.

Pro tip: just unfollow them

You'll still be friends with them afterward so you can still check up on their stuff manually if you want, and they won't get offended because they don't get notified on an unfollow.

Thanks but I'm never going back, there were some people from college miss connecting with but it's still not worth it IMO.

but I don't really see how it's any better than Facebook

It's better because it's easier to see and find content and the content is relevant for a little longer. It's also a global system and content isn't funneled into personal endless streams that are more like echo chambers. With FB you have the echo chambers if you want them or not. On Reddit it's a matter of choice. Chances are also high that you'll be confronted with content that you'd not see otherwise because your friends-friends are not interested in the topic.

I'm not really interested in defending either of them, but thanks for the points, although it sounds like you're just talking about FB's homepage and not some of the larger groups, public figures posting, etc.

It's much more anonymous.

From friends and family. Not from the US govt.

We don't use our names here so the only thing tied is an email account which could very well be icanhazcheeburgers@gmail.com

You're right. That's the only way the US govt could track you /s

Reddit is better because you can choose topics about which to converse instead of having the topics dictated by the news cycle. I guarantee you that everything you see on Facebook right back is about something that was talked about in the news last week.

On, Reddit, I can go look at pictures of cats all day if I feel like it.

That's not true. You just need to know where to go. e.g. I have been following the DNC Fraud Lawsuit for months and they share articles that haven't been posted elsewhere on Reddit. So that's +2 for FB.

+1 for info straight from the source

+1 for content you can't find on Reddit

https://www.facebook.com/DNCfraudlawsuit/

Anyway, I don't care too much either way. Neither site is anywhere near perfect. Neither site is unbiased. Both sites manipulate content distribution. There are obvious positives for anonymity from your friends & family that we get on Reddit. But there are also positives for being public about what you're posting.

On, Reddit, I can go look at pictures of cats all day if I feel like it.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/PostYourCatPictures/

The cat topic actually brings me to one of my biggest pet peeves about Facebook. I go in and set my feed to "Most Recent" so I can see what I missed. It never saves. Facebook always requires me to see what they want me to see. It is similar to Reddit, but Reddit can search by New and it is less annoying to scroll through the results, and the topics can be discussed in more detail. Having a discussion on Facebook with more than twenty posts is a nightmare.

Should've never even made a Facebook. Dumb high school me.

I used that shit for about a week then shut it down telling my friend it's a waste of life. It's now the best resouce the government has for tracking your dumb ass. Billions of people voluntarily giving up their personal information for no apparent reason.

for no apparent reason.

I mean, maybe you have autism then? If you literally never saw the appeal of Facebook even with its overwhelming social approval, and you genuinely can't understand why someone would post something to facebook...

Thank you, Dr. Reddit.

Maybe he's not a prick always seeking the approval and admiration of others.

Lol, you're literally admitting that you act based on a need to perform socially normative tasks

No, I'm literally not.

I am admitting to feeling an urge to perform socially normative tasks, which is normal as I am a human being. I'm not saying anything about a need to perform them.

Urges stem from needs

I mean, you've only got to think about that statement just a little to see its not completely true.

The shit that we let politicians get away with is mind boggling. Nobody holds their own team responsible and will defend them to matter how much they got fucked. That's why the 2 party system will never change, it has been so successful for our masters that the will defend it to the death

(((two party system)))

It IS a problem, and it is almost always with elected officials. Some of them come into politics already having money, but SO, SO many make money through "investing" while in office. Not surprising since Congress pretty much said insider trading is OK for them.

Or through speaking fees after office

Although, that one doesn't bother me as much. We treat our politicians more like TV personalities than public servants.

It's either influence peddling and illegal lobbying - or the appearance of it, in such case they should turn down the fees

Speaking fees are their payment for backroom deals. Pretty much just good old fashioned money laundering, which is illegal for a private citizen (unless you're rich)

The vast, overwhelming majority make their money before getting into office. It's very expensive to run for office, especially the higher the office. Look at how many senators were wealthy first. It's a self selective process.

It's easy to make money on investments when companies can leak all major announcements to you ahead of time.

Nancy Pelosi, career public servant, is worth about 200 million dollars. I believe her husband is some sort of an "investor". Must have a real knack for it

Nancy Pelosi

Wasn't she the reason they enacted the STOCK Act - Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge Act?

Power gets money. Money gets power.

Why no one cares? I wish I knew

Because post feudal humans honestly believe that they live in a meritocracy, and they think they're going to be rich soon

Like Diane Feinsteinn, Nancy Pelosi, Maxine Waters, and Harry Reid?

Certainly like them, also like Mitch Mc Connell, John Mc Cain Chris Christie and others.

Cuz the average person is a flouridated, media brainwashed, chemtrail breathing dummy, who worships and look up to politicians like they are these supreme beings guiding their futures to a success for the common citizen.

Because they are mostly worried about Bernies beach house.

Bernie gets attacked for his book and beach house because he's supposedly against big money and corrupt politics while simultaneously playing the same game.

Then why isn't he rich?

He is. Who can afford a half-million dollar beach house?

Multiple houses plus sports cars and shit

A senator who gets a yearly salary 170k. You'd have really mismanage you finances to not be able to afford one after 20+ years of that kind of pay.

If he loves America so much, why doesn't he donate that money to poor families or something?

Bernie "Israel first" Sanders is just a scam artist

Indeed. Zio-sheepdog.

I'd love to see a list of all public officials and their net worth before and after they started their political careers, including max salaries. Isn't all of that public information?

You're kidding right? The average person does think it's a problem. What do you live in a hole under a rock with no internet and receive your messages by carrier pigeon from a guy who doesn't speak your language?

Mind, to answer your question genuinely, "Being a celebrity" is grounds for six figure speaking fees. Even if they're completely honest, a national level politician who can't exploit their recognition for millions of honest dollars is probably an idiot.

Do you want an honest answer? A lot of them are very talented people who will get huge amounts of money elsewhere. You want the government run by the smartest people don't you? FBI Director Comey is worth millions, but what they won't tell you was that he was in private practice for a decade as Chief Legal Counsel. That's a C-suite job, bound to pay you millions.

Susan Rice, everyone thinks swindled money .. well, she comes from money.

She grew up minutes from the nexus of her present-day political saga, in Shepherd Park in Northwest Washington. Her father, Emmett Rice, was an economist who in 1979 became the second African American appointed to the Federal Reserve Board. Her mother, Lois Dickson Rice, was a corporate executive and a longtime member of the College Board. Rice’s parents divorced when she was 10.

They circulated among the city’s elite. Rice attended fancy schools — Beauvoir and the National Cathedral School. Rice, who played point guard on the basketball team, was such a jock that her family called her “Spo,” short for sport, a nickname that some family members still use. (Rice says she has not played hoops with Obama. “I know I can’t hang with him,” she says in an interview.)

Inheritances from Cameron’s and Rice’s families, as well as her own investments, are chiefly responsible for her $20 million-plus net worth, which has drawn attention this week because she holds stocks in Canadian oil companies that could benefit from construction of the Keystone Pipeline, a project that she might have some influence over if she were named secretary of state.

(from a 2012 article)

But I never know if posts like yours want serious discussions or just scapegoating. But here's a data point.

Yes, many of them also come from money which is also part of the problem. The cycle of money to power and power to money. This allows them to get into politics and continue to obtain more money and power. It's like you're trying to argue that they don't need more money or power if they came from that background without outright saying it because you know that is not the case.

Think about it. Why would such a talented person with so many prospects take a government job then? It isn't out of the kindness of their hearts. The government base salaries are nothing compared to the money they could be making elsewhere. But the fact is that government jobs provide other opportunities for power and money beyond that small amount.

If they were doing this out of the kindness of their hearts they wouldn't be joining the government. That is not the place for altruists and people wanting to make the world better. Instead they would make personal business reform and clean their family's money through better practices and investments and give back to the community.

If they were doing this out of the kindness of their hearts they wouldn't be joining the government. That is not the place for altruists and people wanting to make the world better.

Why not? I would, if I had a good nest egg to fall back on.

You're very trusting of the people that repetitively go against the people's will

Wouldn't that say more about you than it says about government folk?

I knew you would say that which is why I already explained why not. Did you read it?

Capitalism is a hell of a drug

if everyone switch a private currency and stop using money we wouldn't have this problem.

politicians are just our rulers whop pretend to be public servants.

The average man doesn't care until it's a dictatorship. The youth laugh at you and go back to not caring about stuff never wanting to learn and playing sports and call of duty. They don't care when it lightly affects them. Only when it's the North Korea like governments do they care

My father said "no one leaves a job making millions to take one making a couple hundred thousand." It's true.

the american people are SO DUMB. we live in a giant brainwashing prison.

Probably because lobbying is legal corruption.

I hope lobbyist one day carries the stigma of used car salesman or hitler.

At this point, most politicians are either rich people who bought their way in or, more frequently, well-paid and carefully guided plants for various corporations & organizations/groups.
In either case, that means they'll likely be fairly wealthy from the get-go.

Because fuck trump man black lives matter am I rite ?

Trump and BLM both need to go away

Distraction, programming, etc, it's finally wearing off though

Not really

Younger people are a little more immunized to the chemicals and pollution, but they'll just ramp up the contamination to fix that

I disagree Most people are definitely waking up to what's going on at hand, the entire trump base desired prosecution for hillary, definitely, we're seeing a lot of stuff come up lately that's directly against and counters the false information demonic artifice that's known as the deep state. Soon aliens and technology will be out.

Republicans have wanted to put Democrats in prison for decades dude what the fuck are you talking about?

🎶 Badabapabaaah I'm lovin in 🎶

Wow so aggressive about the world staying asleep, any reason why? Did you forget the conspiracy clan got Cadre to change its logo? The massive heeps of info out there? The YouTube censorship? Specifically designed groups designed to infiltrate and target groups like this? I mean the list goes on my friend, the world is waking up, the massive amount of leaks, how pizzagate became huge, you can only hide so much dirt under a rug before it lifts up the rug. Also it's never happened on this level either before, as of now, more humans are more awake than ever, and Clinton's wanted demise was higher than ever before. I mean you had crowds screaming lock her up, any other instances of that? Yea thought so, also stop complaining and spread info, with your head down Jesus

Skinner box syndrome in a nutshell

Yea this stuff isn't easy to overcome, it takes quite of bit of work, nonetheless possible, keep pushing, never give up, the fights actually working, it's a growing movement

No, you're just collecting your reward and going back to the start, to chase the reward again. Around and around you go

Lol then what is the way wise one? Give me a step by step since you've got it figured out, first I should (fill in here) - go ahead I dare you, your lack of response will let me know what I already know about you

Exit your skinner box, and reassess the situation. Get a more realistic look at the world, so you can see what's actually going on. This is a war that we are losing, and your happy-go-lucky "peaceful grassroots" shit is not helping anyone

Thanks, no you're right, I'll do something for you guys. I know quite a bit, but no you're right about Palestine and the atrocities, you are... I really have no money but i really do have an ace up my sleeve... trust me you aren't the only victims to this global monstrosity... and yea thanks for the heads up - also i'm not the normal type person, what i do works... it's a bit deeper than physical action

I'm not Palestinian

I'm a bot, bleep, bloop. Someone has linked to this thread from another place on reddit:

i think people do have a problem with it but it's even worse, is that they still trust politicians and just end up saying "well being rich isn't a crime so..."

or like how people love to talk about how terrible the usda is and how it regulates organic food, but then they blindly trust everything else the government does.

A couple million is not filthy rich, and the only ones getting that money are very senior politicians or bureaucrats who could work for private companies for a lot more.

Even one million is "filthy rich" compared to the average America

I remember when i was 16 and my parents were asking me what i wanted to fo with my life and ad to make a choice for what to study.

At this point i was a huge conspiracy theorist and had just learned about Socialism and became class conscious. I really wanted to help change the world, abolish the secrecy and build a more socialist society.

So at this point i told my parents i wanted to go into politics and work towards becoming a big player in politics. My dads reply to that, literally verbatim was, "how do you plan on supporting a family if you want to go into politics". pretty much insinuating that politicians make no money at all. Also he knows how corrupt and dirty politicians are even if they have a good heart.

Today i bug him about that comment constantly by mentioning the likes of the Clinton's. "Hey dad, remember when you told me politicians make no money and i wouldn't be able to support a family if i went that route, well look at the Clinton's, life long politicians but somehow multi-millionaires".

He laughs and agrees with me that rich politicians are just corrupt as fuck.

The average person is not very smart. The average American is less intelligent than the average person worldwide

I think it's a big freaking problem- there should be a law against career politicians...

Well who is going to hold them responsible? They govern the country. Everyone who goes against them gets removed from the major parties. They're so focused on protecting their own, and they get to make the laws different for themselves compared to average citizens.

So we find out one of them is embezzling? Doesn't matter one bit to all those making their money off of "legal" bribes. And again, they get to decide for themselves what counts as a "legal" bribe.

The way the country is going this trend will not stop until the whole thing breaks open.
