Someone on 4chan could literally say that hillary hires ninjas from northern japan to smuggle kids to her secret place and the_donald and others would take it as gospel and start posting it here night and day.
The New York Times on Tuesday unveiled a stricter policy for anonymous sourcing, requiring every instance of anonymity to be approved by a top editor at the newspaper.
The guidelines, announced to the newsroom in an email from Executive Editor Dean Baquet, were reached after consultation with the Times' "most experienced reporters and editors" and demands that faceless sourcing be subjected to a higher degree of scrutiny.
Papers like the times/post/etc who have a long history with such sources and trying protect them, well.....let's just say certain people would rather believe a poster on 4chan that tells them what they want to hear.
I agree, and it is a bit scary really. I get why people hate on cable news anchors who don't even do investigations but blab all day on politics and economy, and I get when people hate seeing or reading bias in their news, but to completely dismiss investigative journalism as a whole, that is just scary.
Then again, you can't just go public with damaging information and expect to survive, so needless to say a conspiracy board will to some extent build on direct public and anonymous information sources, like Twitter, Youtube and 4 chan.
