Just a little reminder that the Library of Alexandria wasn't really filled with stuff when it shut down. And even if it was, there were plenty of other libraries around. Also the library did not consist of just one building. All in all, nothing was lost there, and even if it still stood today, odds are very high all books would be gone anyways. Around the time libraries had huge funding problems, and mainting one is expensive, as scroll rot away.
