Not that I doubt it (the mods of /r/AgainstHateSubreddits and the mods of /r/TopMindsOfReddit, which is essentially a conspiracy theorist hate subreddit) but it would be nice to have proof.

With proof we could get the subreddit shut down (which would at least hurt their efforts a little while they attempted to regroup), but further more knowing the agenda of those who are attacking us would be a good insight to have.

It's not a conspiracy hate subreddit, it's where people laugh at the complete and utter lunacy that goes on in between actual conspiracies. Mate, read some of the links, there are people who shouldn't be allowed near a keyboard posting on Reddit.

I'm torn between upvoting you because I agree with you, or downvoting you so that the people who are using this as some kind of self validation exercise won't see you at the top.

Your concern for their fragile mental health is laudable, but most of these dudes checked out of the critical thought and humility side of the social equation in their pre-teen years. Short of a decent SSRI and some lessons in the basics of civility and group mores, they're going to believe nonsense like this until they go.

I have relatives like these guys; they grew up in a closeted environment where the only social criticism was what they learned from that environment and its rules, or they had parents who worked all the time, or they simply aren't bright enough to understand how absurd most beliefs are and how much more complex social interaction is that just 'I like a, so I should hate b'. We're a binary species; the less people know, the more they fear, the more they invent myths and enemies to make themselves feel heroic and part of a movement, to increase the security of strength in numbers.

But sometimes, you just have to look at it, shake your head and laugh at it. It takes about five minutes of trolling through the threads on 'Top Minds' to realize it's a few dozen of us just gobsmacked by the witlessness of a fair swath of the internet, not some invading meme force of neckbearded twenty-year-olds. If I had to guess, I'd suspect most of us are older than the Reddit average.

The same biological evolution that drives our longetivity as a species is also leading to a confluence between cognitive neuroplasticity and technological development, so that instant information transfer leads to increased criticism, which leads to increased debate and, inevitably, more discovery and sharing of information from sources that actually are protective, as the false ones fail people more and more often. So the fringes are getting less fringe all the time. We'll both be dead by the time this sort of nonsense fucks off and people can stop identifying their enemies by simply hating whatever they think they aren't. But as long as we don't force a mass extinction before then and before technology/social change can keep up, it'll happen eventually.
