Let's say there was willpower within the agents of the gov to investigate "those things that should be investigated". It still wouldn't happen. The swamp is too entrenched. We've watched how entrenched it is during Trump's admin. And this kinda thing has been going on for decades. Probably for as long as there's been gov.

The real criminals are protected because of the design of gov. The design of gov enables a "captured state" scenario. It enables a "chain of broken heroes" scenario. It's just not designed to be transparent and accountable. Nor is it sufficiently well designed to self-correct. If gov was designed to self-correct you'd see more "narrative-y" kinda designs in policy - where issues can be identified, tackled and progress made. This only really happens in a way that engages the cohort if the narrative of change of gov is clearly readable and understandable. This is one design smell that we're still stuck with badly implemented gov. Another is of course its manifest behaviour.

Anyway, since the design is shit, and can't fix itself, you likely won't see much improvement. It'll just be the same ol', same ol'.

Given the scale of the problem it becomes clear to me that it's wise to remove oneself from contract with gov, knowing that building up expectations on a thing that isn't designed to meet them leads to avoidable problems downstream. They had their chance. Thought has to be put towards alternative service providers now.
