Tell me more, what roast do you like? How do you prefer to prepare your coffee? I'm a big fan of manual drip filter. I feel that brewing the coffee as apposed to blasting it with steam gives a smooth beverage.

I agree about the bitterness issue, personally I favour a hard roasted expresso bean, medium ground and prepared by steeping two heaped tablespoons in a large cafetiere. Serve with a couple of ginger biscuits.

These guys are morons, but people like you can only be right for so long. There's a statistical guarantee that life on this planet will some day end. What isn't guaranteed is whether humans will survive long enough to denounce the coming end verbally. Odds are we'll be long gone by then. Cool story though, I'm sure.

It doesn't have to be that way. We can gain our freedom and seek out our own destiny in the cosmos. With "radical" life extension and virtualization we solve the mortality issue, then we figure out how to project ourselves onto other planets (beam the data to planet from another solar system, create station with foglets, beam our consciousness to the new bodies). Whether or not we'll still be human in the way we currently are is probably not likely, but we don't need to die out just because people are too lazy to find out a way off this planet.

So then what's to have stopped us from doing this in the past? Perhaps this consciousness you mention is nothing more than an alien intelligence forced into the spark within each of us, incurring what might have appeared to have been evolution, which is actually the host gradually moving toward syncing with its captor...

No matter, I wouldn't be worried about it. The mind is massive, and the spirit is open. Who's to say we need a physical shell to flourish? Maybe heaven and hell are only two of many domains, or perhaps they're BS.

Still... My guarantees in the previous post stand. Looking at the rate of extinction (mammals among them), I wouldn't expect our species to outlast this rock, or come anywhere near doing so. It would seem as if life on dry land is getting increasingly small, and I have to imagine that this trend will continue.

That could be a possibility. There could be ASI that the universe uses as a driving force for organisms, though actually it's more like we are all "designed" to behave and evolve in a certain way. The universe is predestined.

I don't see why we couldn't live on beyond this planet and even this universe. For the immediate future, say within 50 years, we could start developing seasteads for populations that exceed land mass. Vertical cities for land that could downsize cities while leaving room for nature and wildlife.

We could terraform mars and turn that into an earth-like planet for certain colonies, it could be used as a resource and military outpost (which is probably what will happen anyways). For humans and animals we could find earth-like planets in other solar systems and travel there, the ability to do that should be within our reach in a few decades/half century assuming that the current world order doesn't kill us all off before then.

I'm hoping we as a species can take out our captors, gain our independence and set sail for the great cosmos.

The technology to create new universes, or digital ones that exist within this universe, should be possible and achievable using the necessary tools (A.I. or people augmenting themselves with BCI tech will probably be necessary for that discovery).

It's easy to buy into fatalist way of thinking but do keep in mind there are ways to bypass death and slavery. This universe is like one really elaborate garry's mod.

Take a rock the size of a lizard, and see how many lizards it outlasts. You have some notion that we're on the verge of cosmic destruction, and I'm being fatalistic? I'm trying to tell you that maybe there's more than the tangible universe, and if there's even a little bit more then that's a lot. Aside from transmutation, there's no way these species will outlast this planet. Space shrimp, perhaps, but no mammal known to modern man. Still, my guarantee was that some day the earth would be destroyed, but not that humanity would be extinct (though effectively our genus will most certainly be ancient history).

If I was a believer in the Bible, I would simply rely on the fact that it very clearly states that the date of the Rapture cannot be known by man
