Paddock’s Plane Part: II

After learning about the correlation between Paddock and his plane on the sub, I delved a bit deeper.

I went to the FAA’s website and searched for his tail number. The plane is (de)registered to a Wesley D Phillips. The listing address has him at QUARTERS SL BOX 357027, San Diego.

Looking that address up gets you nothing too specific, so I just had Google look up “357027 San Diego” with the quotation marks so only those things are searched.

What I learned is that QUARTERS SL BOX isn’t a place per se, but a designation given to a P.O. box for...The United States Navy. It seems that the box is given to the soldier as an address for mailing.

A previous owner of the box was Captain Anthony Kopacz, who died a few years ago. From what I gather, Wesley D Phillips is a 49-50 year old in the Navy who just so happens to have Paddock’s plane (de)registered to him (which is conflicting information from flightaware).

I am not sure what this means, but it’s something a little weird.

(I write “(de)registered” to note that the plane is currently deregistered, but WAS registered, officially, to Wesley. Google archive or WayBack couldn’t come up with an archived version of the tail number search to prove if Paddock’s name was on it prior to the LV Shooting)

Great investigation work. Please update this post as you find more info.

Off topic..but you know more about all this than I do. Is there a way you can check to see if any helicopters departed Mesquite Municipal Airport the evening of Oct. 1st?

Great investigating

That plane crashed in 1998 an was deregistered because of that.

Paddock's plane got the same talenumber since it was available. I don't know why faa shows this old plane though. Maybe because the latest owner of Paddock's plane decided to get new tailnumber. There might be somekind of restriction on faa's database that wont allow same plane to have multiple tailnumber entries or something

Tail numbers can change. Find the serial number.

Tail numbers are like license plates.

Serial numbers are like VIN's.
