I agree, sort of. I think they can grasp the concept quite easily, it's that proving it isn't super-easy without a fairly specific knowledge of the geometry and astronomy necessary to do so irrefutably. FEers also rely heavily on subjective observations like "The horizon LOOKS flat to me!" and such arguments are practically impossible to refute.
Literally everyone can grasp the concept of a round earth. It is programed into movies like StarWars etc. all the time. Understanding how the earth possibly could be flat is where people mentally shudder.
People believe in the Lock Ness Monster and in Santa. I would argue that is more problematic than trusting what your eyes can observe. Eyes can be fooled, but at least they are trusting their senses. I'd rather people trust their sense and be wrong, than blindly believe in make-believe.
True to what ya said. If I was able to give everyone a private tour of the NGA here in st. Louis the flat earth people would believe the earth is round
No. I don't think that is true at all. A building and people working in it doesn't prove the earth is round. I could visit Santa's workshop somewhere, but that doesn't prove his existence. I would need a ride in the sled and to pet the reindeer.
I know what it is. But that would be akin to me visiting Santa's workshop somewhere. One thing doesn't prove another.
If you want to prove to someone that the earth is a sphere, then you would need to take them up into space to see the curve, not visit a building. That is why I gave the analogy of petting a reindeer and going on for a ride on the sled for proof of Santa's existence.
because conspiracy is going against the mainstream with an alternative theory. So round earth is the accepted theory and flat earth is the "Competing" theory.
Flat earth isn't a theory, it is an observation. There is a difference. If you want to have a debate, and win it, then list all of the ways that YOU personally can observe the earth to determine its shape (i.e., vs. the scientific theories you have to believe in and trust to determine that it is a sphere). From your standpoint, everything appears and is measurably flat.
Do your own homework. Enough FE stuff gets posted on here that a search of the subreddit is going to be more effective than trying to crowdsource it. If you're looking for the "most convincing" stuff, well it's kind of like asking which beer is the most convincing taco.
The real conspiracy is you want people here to do your homework. Flat earth is moronic and your science "teacher" should be fired for giving this out as an assignment.
Honestly not much is. Thats the distressing part of it all. But there is the fact that curvature is not visible at ground level, nor for some distance up/away from the surface. The curvature is something like 8"/mile or (i may have this wrong) about 1/364320 of a degree per foot.
I like how all photo/video evidence from space/NASA is thrown out as fake but then we get to see a flat earther post a video or picture as proof the earth is flat.

What's the conspiracy? Why in your mind does flat earth mean /r/conspiracy?
1 groman31 2017-11-29
A Flat Earth necessarily implies a conspiratorial effort to cover it up, since we've all been taught it's round.

I don't think they taught us wrong I think people can't grasp the concept of a round earth

And it's sad that they truly believe the earth is flat

Its a building full of people (cartographers) that run the courses of all our satellites. I have been there plenty of times.

Well it is round. We are on a plant like any other.

The flat earth is a theory? Oh what is the theory pertaining to the stars in the different hemispheres? If it's flat wouldn't we see the same sky?
1 DanGodOfWhatever 2017-11-29
Maybe because flat earthers are saying that the round earth is a conspiracy?
Not sure why OP put this question here, though. Feel like this would fit in better at r/flatearth or something similar....
1 RMFN 2017-11-29
Yes. The movement for the flat earth is faked by intelligence agencies to make conspiracy theorists look insane.
How could the flat earth even be a relevant conspiracy? How does that effect individual people?
1 DanGodOfWhatever 2017-11-29
Exactly. Either way, that's how it could fall under r/conspiracy.
I honestly have no idea. I think flat earters are either plants or crazy people believing the plants.
1 chiup 2017-11-29
I believe in plants. I'm a green earther.
1 DanGodOfWhatever 2017-11-29
I believe in picking up litter. I'm a clean earther.

Do drugs first because that is the only way to accept such a theory in this day and age enough to argue it ;)
1 beaver_shots 2017-11-29
There is no evidence. Watch some flat earth videos and its all just people who are bad at math and have no understanding of basic physics.
