What is Happening

I was scrolling through my Facebook feed and saw an acquaintance blaming Trump for the FCC and Net Neutrality.
Do people not realize this has been a thing for a while now?

In the world of politics, the other side is blamed for everything when the other is in office. All about the others.

To be fair, Trump is directly to blame for this. He's the one that promoted Pai.

You mean the loss of the Net Neutrality rules. Right now we have Net Neutrality rules.
The rules were somewhat informal until under the Obama Administration the FCC wrote them down and voted them into place.
The new FCC, with a Republican majority of appointments, want to remove the rules and hand control of the internet, for content, access and cost over to private corporations like ATT, Verizon, Comcast, etc.
The Trump administration wants them removed.

Wiki is not a credible source and what is your point?

It is just fine for NN dates. The battle has for NN has been raging for a lot longer than Trump has been in office. At least be honest in your replies.

Well y es, We are currently operating under the rules put in place by the FCC during the Obama Presidency.
Why do you think I am denying that the discussion has existed for years?
Are you not understanding just what the vote today is about?

No I got it. I was just trying to provide some more context for the lad. People need to know this battle with the corporations and government has been raging for a while now. I have contacted my Unrepresentatives in Office for over 8 years in regards to these issues.

This is such a terrible explanation of NN it boggles my mind. The Obama administration's FCC reclassified ISPs as common carriers under Title II, which imposes a host of new regulations on them and basically gives the FCC control over much of what an ISP can and cannot do.
1 EyeOfTheBeast 2017-12-14
And considering that the taxpayer, not the ISPs, built and maintain the internet, why should the ISPs have control over what you see and access and how much you pay?
Your government is your tool, but you are handing it over to billionaires and corporate interests, Why?

The government is already owned by corporate interests. Giving government control over the internet is a terrible idea. That would mean even more surveillance and gov picking winners and losers. Let the market decide.

Trump appointed Ajit Pai, and he's been explicitly against Net Neutrality since before he was elected. The blame is deserved

Actually Obama appoint Pai, Trump promoted him.
1 Mooseisabitfat 2017-12-14
The promotion is key here. Without it, Pai wouldn't have had the power to gut net neutrality.

Oh, sorry. Trump "designated" Pai as the chairman. I'm pretty sure everyone knew what I meant

It's not an agree/disagee situation. Trump promoted Pai, knowing his stance on net neutrality. Trump is responsible.

We were talking about access and payments... why go off on this tangent?
1 tainted_waffles 2017-12-14
You're going to have to provide a source because that claim is bullshit and you know it.
