Targeted Ads.. TOO targeted

Has anyone else noticed that if a topic comes up in conversation, suddenly ads for that product/item/etc come up on social media and other platforms? Makes me wonder about the internet and our phones. How much do our phones take in?

I'd recommend a mic-blocker. They probably aren't perfect, but so far I've had less "weird" events like TripAdvisor knowing I was taking a trip to another city and Facebook giving me ads based around a phrase a friend uttered.

someone should start a Facebook group that is dedicated to boycotting companies that use targeted ads

good point, but if we are on Facebook, then we can use Facebook to organize this boycott. i wonder how long it would last before Facebook shut it down

While using facebook or any google account, you already accepted targeted ads in the terms of service. So you wanna boycott something you already agreed with, just saying.
You think you can just boycott advertisements with stupid facebook groups? How are you plan to do that?

One time me and a friend were talking about a national news story about a woman who got punched in the face in Venice Ca by a man, and minutes later, it showed up in her "recommended for you" videos on youtube/android phone. She never searched for the story on her own accord, and it popped up.

I never thought much of this, until I found myself the victim of course.
