They're laughing at you
50 2017-12-30 by THES8N
You watch J0hn 0liver? Stewart? Colbert? Maddow? You hear that canned laugher? That's not just to remind you they're making jokes, that laughter is laughing at you, viewer. You who sits and waits patiently for their sludge to come flowing down the tube and through your television nozzle. They're mocking you for waiting at their exhaust vents for a tidbit of salvation. They spite you by weaving emotionally riveting tales to poke your dopamine and then laugh as you scarf it up and beg for more.
Take control of your own consumption. Dont be complicit at the plantation waiting for the dinner bell to ring. Cook your own meals dammit.

Ugh, almost everyone I know love those shows, I puke eeeverytime i just get a glimpse of it(No, not literally). Too propaganda for me
1 Zap_Powerz 2017-12-30
he is not funny. dumb people find him funny.
1 DracoDystopia 2017-12-30
You'd be surprised; its not really just dumb people.
1 87tillwedieIn89 2017-12-30
I like to watch him for the same reason I like to watch that 70’s show. sometimes a brain needs a rest from doing high functioning tasks. Dumb works for me. Gets us to equilibrium agains.
1 DracoDystopia 2017-12-30
Understandable. I am the same.
1 Quietabandon 2017-12-30
Yeah John Oliver's monologues about corporate prisons, net neutrality, imprisoning people for token fines, etc. is really corporatist shilling and propaganda. These are issues people here feel strongly about... but yes, he is laughing at you.
John Oliver is why this country is being plundered by a kleptocracy...
1 Drewcifer419 2017-12-30
You don't get it do you? He gets the fee fees going about serious issues then makes light of them, turns them into jokes instead of demanding his audience get off their asses and do something.
1 Quietabandon 2017-12-30
He opens people who otherwise are unaware of these issues to these issues. I don't think he prevents anyone from acting... his preachy monlogues are not very funny so he is not very successful on the joke part...
But I never got the feeling Oliver trivialized issues even when he is joking...
1 Tamerlane-1 2017-12-30
So he is just like this sub, except with a sense of humor?
1 DJTr4pesCh1ldren 2017-12-30
Ain't nothing worse than the right wing propaganda apparatus. How many murders have been committed because people watch that shit?
1 PepperoniSizedNips 2017-12-30
Sounds like this conservative guy doesn't like liberal comedians. Awww sorry bud.
1 KiwiBattlerNZ 2017-12-30
So, interestingly, OP is right... they are laughing at him.
1 Balthanos 2017-12-30
Removed. Rule 5
1 BallP 2017-12-30
I'll write a John Oliver joke for you-- "Trump this week signed an executive order banning drones from flying near reservoirs. It was the worst thing done to our drinking water since your college roommate Steve drank too many Bud Lights! [insert bad photoshop of male staffer "Steve" peeing in lake] Audience chuckles. John really drives the laughs home with some great follow-ups - - "Thanks STEVE". "Is there anything worse than STEVE??" "Way to go... STEVE!!"
1 blackholesmatter 2017-12-30
John Oliver is objectively not funny
1 Lucy-Sky-Diamondz 2017-12-30
They have a sign "applause/Laugh" which a hype man brainwashes the audience to follow
1 DracoDystopia 2017-12-30
He's extremely cringeworthy and I never liked talking weasels pretending to be human.
1 _innawoods 2017-12-30
The reason it is so easy to write a John Oliver sketch is that the show literally follows an extremely rigid, hypnotic pacing.
1 theybuyortheydie 2017-12-30
Not to mention all the intentional vocal tonality, neuro linguistic programming, and other more obscure topics. It's a very interesting science
1 squirtlekid 2017-12-30
He's intelligent, clearly the accent proves he knows what hes talking about!
1 Ninjakick666 2017-12-30
I don't recall any laughing on Maddow's show aside from herself and maybe a producer giggling now and then.... she could prolly use a laugh track though so it ain't so awkward when she tries to deliver a zinger.
1 THES8N 2017-12-30
AJ isn't necessarily comedy and doesn't laugh track it either, but it's the same business; stoke up the fires of divisiveness
1 MarloJenkins 2017-12-30
So I'm guessing you also have a huge problem with Rush Limbaugh and Hannity and other right wing guys that make millions stoking up fires and divisiveness.
1 canucker78 2017-12-30
And your not being divisive?
Your post is basically look at all these liberal sheep watching talk shows and then a bunch of extreme rhetoric.
1 MoronToTheKore 2017-12-30
I think conservatives are just jealous they don’t get to have comedians, personally.
1 eaazzy_13 2017-12-30
idk, the shit isn’t really that funny. Trump is a goldmine for comedy, he does so much outlandish shit on a day to day basis that it’s really easy to make fun of. But the mainstream comedians jokes are just soooo tired! remember will Ferrell’s impersonation of president bush? That was the funniest skit ive ever seen. But the jokes they run about Trump are just non stop, and not even funny any more. The phrase “beating a dead horse” was coined just for situations like this.
1 Occams-shaving-cream 2017-12-30
What?
The difference is they don’t need to hire comedians to deliver their message.
Trump does his own shitposting, no middle man.
1 MoronToTheKore 2017-12-30
Who hires this ring of comedians to spew propaganda? What’s the moral difference between hiring a guy to shitpost for you versus doing it yourself?
Or maybe, you know, they’re just professional comedians and conservatism doesn’t lend itself well to comedy.
1 Occams-shaving-cream 2017-12-30
There is no moral judgement here, only making an ironic stab at the Left needing someone else to make things funny.
Who hires them?
HBO pays Oliver, rather elementary... HBO is owned buy some guys I don’t feel like looking up... most likely they, like 99% of the rest of film and television executives support the Liberals.
And I am sure Oliver is pretty free to say what he wants, and he is a liberal, so... Would he have been hired if he was not a liberal, maybe that is the question.
Man, this is way more words than intended for a throwaway quip originally.
1 MoronToTheKore 2017-12-30
My point is that Oliver couldn’t not be a liberal, because conservatism doesn’t lend itself well to humor; being a fear-based ideology.
Correlation, not causation.
1 Occams-shaving-cream 2017-12-30
Then how is Trump hilarious?
Conservatism can be funny, it is just a different kind of humor more Socratean irony than plain sarcasm.
1 ANTIFARULEZ 2017-12-30
lol
1 Allinon72 2017-12-30
I'll be laughing at them when 2020 approaches and they have to choose between ratings $$$ or a new president and bankruptcy.
1 blackholesmatter 2017-12-30
Yeah, hard to believe none of these shows existed before Trump became president
1 Allinon72 2017-12-30
They existed, barely. The hated Alex Jones has more viewers than the average CNN show. Maddow was averaging 250k viewers before Trump. Colbert was a huge disappointment, there was even talk of trying to get Letterman back.
Short memories.
1 drgaz 2017-12-30
The irony is actually slightly amusing.
1 DownWithTopMinds 2017-12-30
Just remember, they do not know you personally and logically can not be attacking you. Some just like to spread fear, thats all.
1 AlvinItchyCock 2017-12-30
Na a little television entertainment every now and then isnt bad for. And the sound editors and laughing aidience arent laughing at future viewers. Maddow has canned laughter now?
1 oldMiseryGuts 2017-12-30
Canned laughter? You know they have live audiences right?
Canned laughter is pre recorded laughing tracks, not applicable here
1 blackholesmatter 2017-12-30
So many people I know watch right wing media exclusively, and act like they're privy to some higher truth when half of what they say is complete nonsense. The "facts" they give are usually Fox News bullshit like, "did you know America is the only country without tariffs" or something that could be googled in 20 seconds. If you think infowars or some conservative-eagle-news.ru website is informing you then you are wrong. Not believing what you hear if it comes from the MSM doesn't make you wise, especially if you instead believe things coming from some right wing blog-rag like breitbart that was designed to be propaganda. So many people think that the popular MSM narrative must be wrong solely because it is popular, but that's not how facts work.
1 Benroark 2017-12-30
Maybe you'd prefer conservative or libertarian comedi... wait, oh.
1 monopoly_man_pass_go 2017-12-30
I'm pretty sure these shows are loosing viewers (would love a source if someone has one). The slack is being picked up by YT personalities. I personally know many young people (GenZ) that exclusively watch YT/twitch/etc.
All of them produce content that their audience wants to consume. Sensationalism is in popular demand. Once they garner a significant audience that usually trends on one side of the aisle, they have absolutely no incentive to attack the other side. Gone are the days of Craig Kilborne / early-Jon Stewart where nobody was safe from ridicule (at least how I remember them - I could be wrong).
1 FunkyBoy4207 2017-12-30
I used to like Oliver because he covered some pretty obscure topics no one else was talking about but saw his true colors during the election
1 Allinon72 2017-12-30

You forgot Maher. That smug son of a bitch needs to be taken down a few pegs.
1 Drewcifer419 2017-12-30
One of the greatest late night moments this year was when Colbert announced the firing of Comey and his audience cheered. The look on his face was priceless.
1 62152 2017-12-30
Is there a point to this post other than you whining that people watch different media than you?
1 9-NINE-9 2017-12-30
Fun fact that recorded laughter you hear is a record from the early 50s. All those people you hear laughing are dead. 😜
1 sydneybluestreet 2017-12-30
A couple of years ago on US TV John Oliver championed former Australian Prime Minister, John Howard, for the success of the 1996 Australian gun buyback program, which was introduced immediately following the Port Arthur massacre. (The Port Arthur massacre is alleged by many--not without evidence--to have been a black op/false flag with the intention of removing guns from the Australian public.)
Watch out for John Oliver. He's definitely pushing the NWO agenda.
1 Brendancs0 2017-12-30
Those shows make my stomach turn , my parents never used to watch crap Like that. The. Trump caused hysteria.
1 87tillwedieIn89 2017-12-30
