Strength in numbers. It's the only advantage we have over them.

Who are 'we'?

Non-elites

Who gets to draw the line?

What line?

If the elites want de-population they're doing a piss-poor job of it. If you've done even a little bit of research into how much power they wield that should raise red flags.
No, the elites want over-population, and have pushed that ever since their turn towards neoliberalism and religious fundamentalism in the 70's. Before that, people like GHWB and international aid organizations pushed third world birth control. When he joined the Reagan administration this was banned, and the third world's family planning hasn't recovered.
They do this for many reasons. Over-population keeps the third world poor and unstable, women subservient, the first world masses dependent on elites to prevent them from being swamped, and creates a large mass of exploitable labor to enrich the elites through free trade and fight their battles when necessary.

They eventually want a controlled order. Having too many people in the world causes a lot of chaos. Apparently their level of control works best with a set amount of people.

Has it ever occurred to you that the 'seven billion' figure might itself be a deception?

it is possible that the real number of humans is significanly less than that. would make perfect sense to inflate the numbers to keep the scare up.

Bingo.

The lie is in the other direction. 7 billion humans is trivially within the Earth's carrying capacity, if we didn't criminally misuse our resources and trash ecosystems that should be richly abundant. This is way before you get into anything exotic, like ocean or subterranean-based habitation and farming.
To say nothing about the fact that birthrates are crashing in developed societies, and the fact that developing societies will catch up to that low level of birthrate very quickly, because technology makes it so much faster to industrialize and spread literacy.
Overpopulation is a myth, but the lie isn't in the number of humans in the planet.

Tell that Egypt and other nations in that area.
1 LoganLinthicum 2018-01-23
Developing nations do have problems with resource shortages and overpopulation, thought waste plays a huge role there as well. But that's not global overpopulation, it's local issues which will be solved via industrialization, which the current state of technology will make much easier and rapid than for the nations that came before.

You're a very naive person expecting problems to vanish by themselves. You completely ignore reality(location, population mentality/education, available resources and *capital), time and history.

Nah, look into the factors that influence birthrate, it's pretty well understood. I'm not expecting anything to happen by itself.

back in the 80's or 90's they did the math and found that the earth could support ten billion w/o any problems when it comes to food.

Right! Think about how far we've come since then! Just LEDs tuned to the frequencies used by plants massively increases our potential output. (Not that I'm advocating for that approach, actually. I think we'd be much better off tailoring rich and productive ecologies that nuture us and the rest of the planet at the same time)

I think for multiple reasons. The elites think of the poor as animals who are defiling their Earth, despite the fact that those same elites who push for depopulation have much to do with poverty in the first place.
Also, the less people there are, the easier they would be to control. Having half a billion angry people to contend with is much easier than 8 or 9 billion angry people.
Additionally, studies have shown that clinical psychopathy and positions of power go hand in hand. Those at the very top with immense power are probably also higher on the psychopathy checklist...they likely enjoy dominating and watching other people suffer.

Automation replacing most of the workforce will leave most humans obsolete, and in order to maintain the preplanned utopia they will have cull the herd significantly.

they want it all, the whole planet. no sharing of anything with the filthy deplorables. they dont want to inhale the smell of the unwashed masses. everything must be neat and picture perfect.

I think it's to keep us from destroying the World, which is a good thing.

What de-population?
The population is increasing.
I can even see this on a local scale, bit by bit fields are turned into swathes of housing near me. Small towns have been absorbed as the suburbs of cities.
1 nollinostalgia 2018-01-23
We are over populated. It’s obvious. Everyday housing is being built because there isn’t enough. I think they want over population. I think they are pushing for abortion to be outlawed and birth control to be harder to obtain so that woman have more children. Millennials have the lowest birth rate in the last three generations because millennial woman don’t want children. Yet right now under our current government their is a big push for plan parenthood the biggest place for woman to get free or affordable birth control to be shutdown and for abortion to be stopped. I don’t want children for many reasons and I am a millennial. Over population keeps the poor poor. It feeds the war machine, it feeds the prison machine. They don’t want depopulation.
