Time travel
2 2018-02-14 by DBPooper07
Anyone seen the story of the time traveler Noah that claims to be from 2030? He states some things that supposedly happen in the near future but they are all pretty vague things that anyone really could make a guess on....thoughts?

Why can't they ever simply have written down some power ball winners and then predict them? That'd convince anyone immediately.

You can't interfere with the timeline.
1 brock_lee 2018-02-14
He already has

You said the person he predicted after Trump doesn't exist so that isnt necessarily interfering with the timeline. It would be like me going back in time and telling the Ba'athist party to be wary of Barrack Obama.

It's not a very good indication of your knowledge of the future, though.

My point is that he's not screwing with the timeline by giving false information.
In my example Obama had nothing to do with the Ba'ath party bit he did have an impact in Iraq. Just because you couldn't find the name he predicted doesn't mean that person doesn't exist. Maybe he is right and if so...Not everyone is on social media, maybe they change their name, maybe the government changes it's requirements for presidents or something along those lines.
My original comment was merely a Flashpoint joke.

Pretty sure it does. There is no one who has zero internet presence today, and I'm talking any presence, including news articles, etc. who will be elected president in 6 or 10 years. Hell, my kids don't have facebook, instagram, etc., but you google their names and you'll find them based on news articles like making the honor roll at school, etc. I refuse to believe that someone who is unknown today will be president in 6 to 10 years.

But someone who does exist could change their name to the name predicted and become president in 6-10 years under that name. How would you be able to find them if they don’t have that name yet?
1 Ben_Wabawls 2018-02-14
While it's not very likely that an unknown person will be elected president in 6-10 years, it's not impossible. Prior to him announcing his intentions to run for President how many people knew of Barack Obama?

What was the name of the person after Trump?
1 brock_lee 2018-02-14
Ah sorry, I guess I remembered wrong...
But still, that person would be elected in 2028, must be a minimum of 35 then, so at the minimum they are 24 now, and there is no record of such a person.

Well, if the Hulu show 11.22.63 is any indication of why, it’s because that’s predicted lottery winnings is how they fiscally survive. If they told those, they’d be screwed.

If the intent is to prove that you are from the future, it should be trivial to produce concrete evidence. To that end, if it were me, I would create some kind of method by which I could write the numbers down for a power ball draw where no one wins. There are quite a few. I would lock those in a box or something. Immediately after the draw, I would open the box (which has been confirmed by multiple outside entities as not having been accessed since being locked, etc.) to reveal I had indeed picked the winning numbers. Therefore, I don't deprive anyone else of the winnings but I prove my claims.

Just win it three times in a row and people will assume you are a time traveller.

What kind of record are you looking for? You work at the census bureau or something?

You could share a link or something.

Lottery is a trap to catch time travellers
1 DBPooper07 2018-02-14
I 100% believe it’s possible but I highly doubt it’ll ever be readily available to the public

If anyone had time travel, they could always go back in time and get an ancient coin in perfect condition to sell for huge amounts of money. Or they could get artwork from young famous artists. I would think the lottery would be too obvious and only doable once.

You should check out the graphic novel RASL by Jeff Smith about an dimension jumping art thief.
1 evilast 2018-02-14
The only thing with the artwork is because they bring it back it won't have aged so it would be doubted and called a fake.
1 HeffalumpInDaRoom 2018-02-14
They could put it in a climate controlled cave, perhaps.
1 evilast 2018-02-14
Ok that works for me you would make a great time travelling art thief.
1 HeffalumpInDaRoom 2018-02-14
What makes you think that I am not a great time-traveling art thief? If I admitted that I was one, then I would be a bad one.
1 evilast 2018-02-14
I was honestly going to ask you that but then knew better that you wouldn't blow your cover
1 HeffalumpInDaRoom 2018-02-14
Well, if I release my stolen Nazi art collection, it will be kind of difficult to refute. Also, Nazi boxcar gold is a good investment. Just saying.
1 ScaredycatMatt 2018-02-14
He did give the name of somebody that would be born on the 12th of September which isn't vague at all.
1 Blakwulf 2018-02-14
Total crap. Says he has no proof and also says that his predictions wouldn't always be true because of a convenient paradox.
