Florida shooting victims obituaries.

16  2018-02-28 by Tunderbar1

You all might find this a tad gruesome, but I found something that I think is odd, peculiar, strange. I looked up the Florida shooting victims names, then I looked up their obituaries.

I'd say at least half of the obits, probably closer to two thirds of them looked like they were cobbled together by people not related to the victims. With little or no input from family members. They read like a quick third party summation with quotes about the person actually taken from newspaper reports. Nothing loving and personal at all.

Several of them actually read like what you would expect the family to write. Actual personal information about the persons life, their character, interests, etc.

So.... what to conclude? I don't know. Read this stuff and comment.

Maybe some of them where not created by the families, not sure who can create an obituary for someone

I know that the last funeral I was involved in, the funeral director had us, the family, draft the obit and submit it to him, and he then submitted it to the newspaper who then added it to their obit website.

That doesn’t mean every family chooses to submit an obit to the local paper.

I know. Not disagreeing. I can see one or two losing it in such a heart breaking situation, but I think that the majority didn't submit one. I find that quite strange.

Why? Do you have any numbers to back up how many families submit obits for a teen who dies unexpectedly?

No. Do you?

No which is why I’m not in a position to say if it’s strange or not.

Then why are you disputing this, with your admitted ignorance of the subject and your unwillingness to form an opinion on same?

Then why find it strange. You think too much.

You think too much.

Yeah..... that's what we keep being told.

I'm pretty sure there's a relevant xkcd for this...

If you spend all day hypothesizing without knowing all the facts then your thinking too much and wasting energy on the wrong stuff.

Im not so sure legacy.com and digitmemorial had anything to do with the burial of most of these kids. If you search for random common names on that site (david smith, john white ie) you'll see bland obits all over the place. I think this website is mostly automated and is just scraping obit information off the web.

Then can you link to their actual obits?

So I looked up Meadow Pollack since the obit you provided was lacking information. I found this

https://forward.com/fast-forward/394575/meadow-pollack-light-of-our-life-killed-in-florida-high-school-shooting/

I also found this vidoe of her dad Andrew speaking to the President days after this young girl died.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isbHzIqu620

You can goolge the rest of these dead kids

I would love to see what this sub would look like with upvotes and downvotes turned off.

Or if you could see who votes how.

The Legacy site: Looks like an aggregate site...

  1. a whole formed by combining several (typically disparate) elements.

"the council was an aggregate of three regional assemblies"

The first one looks kinda normal for a basic announcement page?

They all came as a result of the the same search page:

http://www.legacy.com/search

Right. It's a site that compiles these faces/names and forms little thumbnails of the individuals. Here's Orlando Niteclub...

Wow. Those obits are even creepier than what I posted about.

Wtf...if I died in a 'tragedy' like that, I hope my spouse wouldn't start my obit with "Mushroomsinabag was killed in the deus ex shooting". I would think the first page would have one that seemed thoughtful and heartfelt. Fucking gross.

Most obits don't even mention how the deceased passed. People try to celebrate the deceased life, not their passing.

The end of the memorial videos on the dignitymemorial links say 'to watch again go to baileymemorial.com. That site doesn't exist. The one I watched (h. Ramsay) had baby pictures, then pictures from this year or so only. Nothing in between. Long video with some repeating images. Not doing that crap again, but if you're interested in the obits, be sure to check those vids.

Great research. Now search for the 9/11 vicsims report to find very similar things written about the 9/11 "victims" plus lots of analysis showing all kinds of jibbery pokery with the pictures
