The "crackdowns" are happening to everyone not just conspiracy theorists or conservatives. National Rational and Dave Pakman Show have both had videos randomly demonitized, some other left leaning ones I'm sure I think even H3h3 went through same bs. Even harder to believe it's targeted when Alex Jones was bullshitting when he was playing victim.
It's part of the downfall of having an automated report system, the platform is so big it'd be almost impossible to manually sort through all reports and videos.
That said there is Vimeo and Dailymotion that host videos, liveleak doesn't seem to block anything
yeah, but so is the net and all the proprietary hardware and software we use. the harddrive firmwares are equipped with a complete os complete with web servers, the bios and now even the cpu itself is running its own os on the side (intel cpus use minix), that is completely independent from the user and cannot be shut down or interacted with.. the routers and internet switches in 95% procent of the cases are backdoored etc.
the whole point of using tor is to make it harder for all but the state level players to snoop on me (lets say 80% of them). the governments are already monitoring all of the net, but so are the ad-based businesses, botnets and other malware operators.
by having the browser hardened against these types of attacks is already a bonus, on top of that, onion routing will, again filter out all tracking attempts (google cant track me for example), from all but those having unhindered access to the infrastructure and running large numbers of exit points (nsa, gchq, five and 14 eyes etcetc).
all this is needed, because the data they collect about us will be actively used against us.
the idea here is to starve the corporations government agencies and think tanks of any data which is needed to train artificial intelligence programs and to change legislation for maximum taxation and other forms of extortion and exploitation..
no big data -> nothing for the ai to work on..
Ah.... no, sorry, skipped the downloading part. There are numerous other addons for downloading though. Plus if you add these to your browser you're screwing multiple OTHER asshole sites, and Google. Oh... I also add Ublock origin to my browser, both for safety and to screw ad companies.
LiveLeak used to be a lot better. Now for some reason the most garbage videos are being featured constantly. The mods hand out infractions like crazy now as well. Also outside of the front few pages it doesn't really feel like I am discovering new or similar videos.

There are some good independent journalists posting their stuff on dtube, We Are Change, Ben Swann, even Jimmy Dore. But yeah, you're definitely right about content generally being "focused on crypto", it'd be nice to have more diversity of material.
I’m a nerd. I like smart stuff even if it’s not my skill set. I could watch someone type code for 30-60 min just for fun. I don’t get it, so many things anyone could record/share and the dtube crowd thinks a community focused on crypto will somehow transform dtube = youtube. Does not compute
Other then for backing up video no real alternatives exist. Anytime a competitor becomes popular they loose so much money from bandwidth costs that it bankrupts them. Even YouTube itself would have went under if Google did not buy them out. This is back when video was only 480 res max.
The big problem isn't with video hosting, its that there's no unaltered trending pages on social media.
Facebook/Google/Twitter are altering content based on political views. There was some report that Facebook and Google could alter 25% of the voting public by promoting and removing posts from users feeds.
Youtube trending is company curated by hand. A trending video with less than 1000 views should be a tip off that you're being controlled.
What we need is a 3rd party site with unaltered trends and unaltered search results, thats not in the hands of content hosting companies. Podcasts directories seem to have better trending, but I dont think they are real time trends, and they use RSS feeds.

This should be next weeks Round-table discussion.
1 WarSanchez 2018-03-15
Agreed. Alternative sites and sources for everything.

It is a topic we haven't covered yet. and one that should be addressed with the recent crackdowns.

I need to find a decent alternative to Reddit, I'm seeing much bs on Reddit lately.
1 DarthStem 2018-03-15
Voat?
1 steve_doom 2018-03-15
Yeah people keep on suggesting Voat, theres just no official or a decent third party app for it, no doubt that may change in the future.

i use bitchute, its torrent based and pretty polished. i only wish for a possibility of creating multiple channels, but i think thats in the works.
1 hoipalloi52 2018-03-15
And dtube
1 useless_aether 2018-03-15
i wanted to check it out, but the page wouldnt render in torbrowser. thats all i ever use. i am sure its working fine though in normal browsers.
1 hoipalloi52 2018-03-15
I'm curious why you use Tor? It was designed and is maintained by the US government

This is a good explanation. Thanks for posting it. I will reconsider using Tor

I didn’t realize that you can post videos on gab.ai but you can so that is an alternative
1 ingy2012 2018-03-15
I've heard of hooktube, dtube, and streemit.
1 useless_aether 2018-03-15
i think hooktube is just a wrapper around youtube, denying them ad revenue and facilitating easy downloads. which is all great btw.
1 ingy2012 2018-03-15
Ah good to know I thought it was completely separate.
1 zeropoint357 2018-03-15
Just using Ghostery will do that.
1 useless_aether 2018-03-15
will it do both?

No idea yet... That's what sucks. Just browser for now.
1 g9g9g9g9 2018-03-15
Is there anything particularly wrong with LiveLeak?
1 awesomeness872 2018-03-15
Everyone knows it as a gore site, even if that's not entirely true, it has a lot of bag stigma so people aren't going to use it
1 g9g9g9g9 2018-03-15
The community is definitely toxic. But the fact that they host gore probably means they won't censor stuff.

I like dtube and the block chain tech however a lot of the content is focused on crypto currency. Needs more gamers, history buffs, and story tellers.
