It was a dead ARG before it already started. People claiming these voicemails are a signal being blasted over cellular that is a transmission from the black box on the MH flight.

People don’t seem to be able to grasp that a black box records the sounds from the cockpit; it doesn’t broadcast an SOS by a computer-generated voice (a generic text-to-speech female voice, mind you, not the average emergency male voice we’ve come to know).

It’s apparently a “warning” for us, but if you’re trying to warn as many people as possible, encoding a message in any way, even phonetically is useless and no governing body or group would do that.

And then Steven Hawking was brought into it, as well as space aliens and other straight bullshit. Whatever, it could’ve been good but they fucked it from the start.

Not to mention this was a Malaysian flight, it went down over the Indian Ocean between Australia and Africa, and the date is in a MM/DD/YY format.

Now, the only places in the world that use that format are in North America. Why would a blackbox recorder use a date format that is only used by two or three countries in the world, that are completely unrelated to the plane or incident in question? The subsequent messages received by the initial poster of this conspiracy were in Indonesian, Malay and morse code. Nowhere in this story is there anything to do with the US, or North America. Even the original flight was bound for Beijing from Kuala Lumpur.

And, putting all rationality aside to do these mental gymnastics, why would aliens use a date format used by a tiny minority of the population of earth?

In Asia, the popular format is YYYY/MM/DD, in most other regions, it is DD/MM/YY, making this number highly unlikely to be a date at all, and if it were it could be 2041/8/18 (August 18, 2041) OR 4th January 2818. There is no way to tell, though the former would be more likely.

This doesn't really add anything to the conspiracy apart from the fact it indicates that it is made up by a person or persons in North America, who likely didn't take into account the fact that they format their dates differently to literally the rest of the entire world. If it was "aliens", they would have likely used a format more widely used.

Therefore, without even having to say "This is stupid because I said so," we can point to a real flaw and say "This is stupid because that number is not how a date from a Malaysian conspiracy would be formatted."

Completely agree. It seemed pretty obvious to me that this "Ty" guy wanted to freak people out (or even start an ARG, who knows) but got harassed by too many people, so he distanced himself from it.

Some guy got a weird text and posted it in Reddit. Somehow it was posted in 4-Chan by a redditor. They did the digging and figured out code was gps coordinates in Malaysia. I forget the other details but a link to 4-Chan was provided in Reddit thread.
