I think it's exactly because it's always straddled a line between a religious and a racial animosity. Like on one hand there are demonizations of their belief systems by Christians and Muslims (for instance, rumors about blood rituals), but also ideas about them having negative racial characteristics (greed, untrustworthiness, whatever).
I'm Jewish and have NEVER heard of these blood rituals. Also, I'm extremely kind, trustworthy and generous. Actually, in real life, I'm almost too generous because people have taken advantage of me.
I am a Muslim (I consider myself as a good believer) and never hated anybody because of his/her religion, or never hated anybody actually. I grew up in France, where there are a lot of stereotypes about Jews, when I grew up I noticed my best friends were Jews, we didn’t even care about religion. Their belief were not my concern, neither mine theirs.
I feel like some people or groups try to maintain that idea of racism, already calling it “anti-semitism” is somehow a kind of racism, like a kind of classification of hatred or of suffering. I don’t like the word islamophobia either, that’s just stupid, or any word specific to a “community”.
The only word that makes sense is, in my opinion, xenophobia, indeed most of racist people hate because they don’t really know the person in question, they only judge based on stereotypes. Hatred oriented to a Jew, a Christian, a Muslim or an atheist doesn’t matter, it’s hatred anyway.

Are Jews members of a race or a religion?
1 Anontifa 2018-03-23
It's complicated and depends who you talk to. Both Jews and anti-semites have differing opinions as to whether it's race/religion/both/neither.

Why is there a specific word for racism against members of the “Jewish community” (that’s how they call themselves sometimes) or any other community?
Racism IS racism anyway, isn’t it?

So I don't fit the stereotype.

Oh yeah, I'm not endorsing any of it, I'm just trying to break down anti-semitism into its tropes and patterns for the sake of analyzing it.

Oh, I know. And I'll be honest, I know lots of Jews that do fit the stereotype. But I also know lots of them that don't.
I will admit that I did have a big nose. I had a nose job in 1990 (I was 22). So glad I did too! 🙂

So it is a cult.
1 Anontifa 2018-03-23
"Cult" doesn't really mean anything concrete and measurable, it's a dysphemism people use to refer to religions they don't like.
1 Notsonamey 2018-03-23
but Jews don't describe Judaism as a religion?
1 666poopchute666 2018-03-23
Jews are a direct incarnation of the Godhead.
1 DonnaGail 2018-03-23
I'm Jewish and I was raised to believe Judaism is a religion.
1 DonnaGail 2018-03-23
No it isn't. And I'm Jewish, so I know! Judaism is a religion. Anyway, asking if someone is Jewish is okay to do.

Let’s hope someone pulls it off in time right at the buzzer to stop these war drums! Amirite?

Actually, I don't know a lot about John Bolton. Guess I need to research him.

1 DontTreadOnMe16 2018-03-23

Bolotin sounds more like a Russian name than jewish tbh.
1 666poopchute666 2018-03-23
Obvious typo is obvious.
1 DontTreadOnMe16 2018-03-23
You know they have Jews in Russia too, right?
1 emaged 2018-03-23
Yes, I just made an attempt at a terrible pun around OP's typo...
1 DontTreadOnMe16 2018-03-23

Nothing in his wiki suggests he is jewish. He married two women who were not jewish.
