Uncensoring [Removed] and [Deleted]

190  2018-03-27 by WarSanchez

Hey guys just a quick tip on how to deal with some of the censorship on Reddit since I've noticed a lot of users are still not aware of it.

You have two awesome tips that help reveal comments or posts that bhave been deleted by a mod/admin or user.

The first tip helps you see [Removed] comments. These have been censored by a mod or the admin team. All you have to do is open the thread in a browser and change one simple letter in the address bar, but just the one, anything else will ruin it. Just change the "r" in "reddit" to a "c" so it says "ceddit". Again, leave the rest alone and hit enter/go and MAGIC! (Usually it gets all the removed comments unless they were done instantly)

The second one is for revealing [Deleted] comments, those are usually deleted by the user themselves. By adding "move" into "reddit" so it reads "removeddit" in the address bar of your browser, again, leave the rest alone, you'll reveal the comment unless it was edited before deletion.

BE CAUTIOUS! Do not repost any of these comments, especially if they were removed by Admins or a Mod as they might ban you depending on the situation.

Have fun and see through the censorship!

This is the Reddit equivalent to Link's lens of truth in Ocarina of Time.

I am going to have so much fun reading r/science and r/askscience!!!!

Upvoted purely for the mention of Ocarina of Time, the only video game I've ever played.

you are a wizard.

‘Arry

Don't forget the mod log! Although conspiracy is the only sub I know of that uses it.

This will show you removed comments, threads, banned users etc

https://snew.github.io/r/conspiracy/about/log

You used to be able to sort the mod logs by bans, removed comments, etc but that ability seems to have been removed a while back. It made it a lot easier to sort through the massive pile of automod content that is flooding the modlog now. You can still sort, but you need to use the actual URLs like this:

https://snew.github.io/r/conspiracy/about/log?type=ignorereports

https://snew.github.io/r/conspiracy/about/log?type=setcontestmode

https://snew.github.io/r/conspiracy/about/log?type=banuser

https://snew.github.io/r/conspiracy/about/log?type=approvelink

https://snew.github.io/r/conspiracy/about/log?type=removelink

https://snew.github.io/r/conspiracy/about/log?type=approvecomment

https://snew.github.io/r/conspiracy/about/log?type=removecomment

Good knowledge. You can also sort by moderator, just change the name after = to the mod you are looking for.

Eg

https://snew.github.io/r/conspiracy/about/log?mod=aleister

I'm a fan of r/undelete every now and then but almost everytime I look it's full of soapboxes from well-known shills like u/ghostofdusty, a user I would almost go as far as to consider worse than Phoenix himself, still delusionally campaigning against the mods of this sub. I would only advise people be wary of the narratives being pushed around there under the guise of "fighting censorship."

Ahh cool, I didn’t know. Thanks!

I'm going to have to try this for a lot of those /r/science comment graveyards.

You beat me to it.

[belated]

Use Reddit Nuke extension if you plan to delete your own comments.

It rewrites them into random sentences "He looked at the sky" and deleted them afterwards.

I do this on a weekly basis, but I'm mostly on Tap Titans 2 reddit so I got nothing to worry about. Sometimes I post here, but ya know, Got to try and keep a clean profile lol.

Ceddit stopped working for me a while back, maybe because I use the Brave browser on my phone?

I know it is wonky sometimes, hopefully the bugs get worked for you.

Stopped working for me a while back as well. IIRC I did a little searching when this happened and others said they had the same result and that it no longer worked.

It had stopped working for me for a while too, this is the first I've seen it back.

It should be noted, there are often posts that are removed because they were posted in the wrong sub-reddit. I tracked Ceddit for a good portion of time prior to it's going down last year, and I found a lot of cross-contamination between posts. Posts that would be marked as removed/deleted, but then show up in a different sub, with a different post ID. I am not sure if this is a bug in Ceddit itself, or if these are legitimate comments that are misappropriated when posted.

It's still a great tool.

Sticky this plz

Seconded. Everyone should know how to see past censorship by mods.

someone gild this

I find myself using this tool on this sub more and more...

Now I head over to r/Politics and...mother of God.

thanks. i like you as a mod /u/WarSanchez

youre also the only(one of the only ones?) one to object or bring up concerns in the 'should r/conspiracy ban users we dont like' list making thread i saw a screenshot of. i appreciate that

I'm not a mod, nor do I ever want to be.

I just want to improve the interactions between site and user and then the relations between different users in the sub.

Also, there were others who spoke up, don't think this place leans one way or another because of a couple of screenshots taken out of context (kind of).

God bless.

Hell yea thank you

Just had a comment of mine "removed" and I had no idea that I wouldn't even know about it unless I logged out and looked. It was just information about the guy that got picked up with all the guns in Boston area. I have to say this is the first time I have thought wtf in terms of censorship on this sub. No rules broken no reason given just secretly removed. Not only that but another poster let me know that similar comments were removed in other subs as well. All I can come up with is maybe reddit is trying to stop any wiff of a witch hunt ala the Boston bombing thing? I dunno.

You had two comments removed by admins, probably for doxxing.

Maybe though the only things posted were public record. No home addresses or anything like that. Also don't mods typically say why a post was removed?

Not mods, admins. And no they don't.

Admins I see. So just for my clarity on this. Its not okay to post information on businesses? I know I had an address and phone number for the business in question. I was under the impression that was okay but am open to being corrected for the future.

You can check with the admins. Reddit wants to be seen as business and advertiser friendly, and perhaps your comments were deemed non-compliant.

Post in question is no longer "removed".... so do they do like a review or? Am confused

Does anyone have any juicy comment threads that need to be revisited?

Whenever I come across this I usually unsave the comment or post.

Thank you so much for this. seriously. i cant stand when i see removed comments. its like the mods are trying to “protect” us from challenging or bad posts. but i want to see them all.

It's fun to look at what upsets mods.

useful greasemonkey script that edits your comments with random characters and then deletes them:

https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/23605-reddit-history-sanitizer

You can set it to delete only comments older than a certain number of days.

Does the Deleted thing show users edits?

When I post, the spelling mistakes and grammatical errors are off the charts. Commas going off in their own direction, periods scattered here and there with no purpose. Spelling Purpose as Porpoise WILL I BE EXPOSED?

If so, I'll have to go from my think/type/post to a think/type/edit/post type thing.

Seriously, thank OP I'm not very good at reddit, so every little bit helps.

removeddit is the way to go in my opinion

On the subject, there's a good little Java applet floating around that lets you track the upvote/downvote ratio of a post, which is very useful for detecting shills keeping a post burried/at the top.

I'd post it but I'm on mobile...

removeddit.com is a better version by the same dev
