Reddit was started in 2005 and didn't turn a profit till around 2016 in spite of being extremely popular. Reddit was propped up by investors for those 10+ years. Voat would be a direct competitor obviously and appears to have had very little support from investors. So sure the voat might have high traffic but that does not mean its profitable or even sustainable.

I did it myself, scrolled further, and it got worse... I don't know if this is related, though.
