The Simpsons/Family Guy

I want to do a character analysis to show how these shows condition people to emulate and accept certain archetypes.
The Simpsons:
Homer- Alpha male is a buffoon, unattractive loser. Marge- Very androgynous character with penis-shaped hair Bart- Smart but outperformed by his sister Lisa, frequently gets into trouble Mr Burns- Evil business owner, Freemason Sideshow Bob- Sociopath intent on murdering Bart Itchy & Scratchy- Characters in a kids tv show that kill each other in gruesome, barbaric ways. Elsagate? Kang and Kodos- Aliens who eat humans
Family Guy is essentially an updated model of The Simpsons
Peter- Once again the alpha male is a total buffoon, loser, unattractive. Lois- Attractive. Unrealistic wife for Peter. Chris- Complete imbecile, fat and ugly like his dad. Meg- Smart but a loser. Tomboy Stewie- Evil baby. Inversion of child innocence. Brian- Embedded joke in the show that the dog is smarter than all the humans. Herbert- Pedophile made to be funny.
These shows are total psyops and they’re also rife with predictive programming. Once you look a little closely at the characters you see what kinds of people they are conditioning us to become.

So if I become a total loser, I'll have an attractive wife? Score.
1 chrysanthemum9 2018-07-02
No it means you’ll continually strive to get a wife that you could never attain.
1 PuzzleheadedBiscotti 2018-07-02
How so? According to the original post, Peter didn't strive for said wife, so why must I? This analogy isn't holding.

Peter is a cartoon character. They designed it so unattractive losers (you) will expect an unrealistic type of wife.
1 PuzzleheadedBiscotti 2018-07-02
So those who don't watch it won't expect a wife? Or it is satire on the stereotypical north US middle class life. One of the the two.

Are you just looking to argue?
If you think for 2 seconds you’ll see how these themes are reinforced across popular culture, not just this show.

You've got much to learn, padewan. Us fat guys with smokin' hot wives exist.
Peter and Lois are pretty realistically matched in reality. It's writers that are the losers who think a fat guy can't have a hot wife, which is why King of Queens got canceled after Leah Remini lost "too much weight" and was fired from the show. Same with Home Improvement. Patricia Richardson was told she was too attractive for the show but was (rightly) unwilling to become less healthy to appease the producers.

I wish we would go back to nice wholesome shows like I Love Lucy and The Honeymooners where husbands could be emotionally abusive for laugh lines.

Haha i've never thought marge had penis shaped hair?! Or androgynous, she's the epitome of a mother and homemaker

And she continues to put up with Homer’s shenanigans. I can only remember 1 episode where she left him to go stay with Patty & Selma.

Marge is the epitome of Ride or die woman.
1 ThisIsMy1stRodeo 2018-07-02
Can we just take a moment to acknowledge that being a ride or die isn’t necessarily a good thing? I think there is way too much pressure on women to be that ride or die for some of y’all crazy men and it makes us not able to live our best lives.
1 Riceandtits 2018-07-02
Perception is an amazing thing. An I do not understand why you think you need to compromise for anyone to live your best life. If you do not want to be like Marge then do not. No one is making you do anything.
1 ThisIsMy1stRodeo 2018-07-02
But isn’t being a ride or die all about staying by someone’s side regardless of their shenanigans and frustration they may cause? (Marriage requires 2 ride or dies). Or and this is legitimate- could a ride or die be a best friend and not your spouse?
Also I just realized I’m over analyzing a cartoon character..

We all have different perceptions of what love is. HAHAHA we are analyzing a cartoon character but there is possible a deeper meaning for us both. For me I did not see stability in my family life an my Ma....well I have been watching the Simpson since the early 90's an it was nice to see a mother like her. You read my comment an felt societies pressure to be the "perfect woman" for what may not the perfect man.

Guessing you never saw the episode where Margery takes steroids, becomes a bodybuilder, beats up everyone in a bar.
1 sdlc89 2018-07-02
Ok one episode.. but your basing this on a general character analysis. Its like saying Homer is all about his plowing job..
1 Didymos_Black 2018-07-02
Also, that means Homer is a Stonecutter/Freemason.

And astronaut...

It's not. It's a throwback to Groening's comic "Life in Hell." The characters had rabbit ears, which if covered with hair resemble Marge's hairdo. She's definitely not androgynous.

The Simpsons family archetypes are inspired from the Honeymooners.

How about Glen Quagmire?

Most programming (programming, get it?) on TV is shit and should not be consumed. TV makes you dumb. TV is for dumb people. If you are entertained by TV, youre dumb.
1 rbslilpanda 2018-07-02
Most of us don't want to hear this, but it's fucking true. Unfortunately I watch my fair share, but do it while yelling at the idiots on the news or dumb ass commercials. It's difficult to enjoy tv when you're really above the content but still want easy entertainment sometimes.

the first 9 seasons of the simpsons was the best thing ever
1 Dippy_Egg 2018-07-02
You forgot Maggie Simpson. Might fit your "evil baby" archetype ... she did shoot Mr. Burns.
1 brelkor 2018-07-02
Go try to make an animated (hell, or even a regular) sitcom with a strong, confident, intelligent, morally centered white male lead and see how far you get. Go on. I'll be waiting for the premier.
1 mastigia 2018-07-02
Premier? Have a feeling the pilot would crash into a building.
1 chrysanthemum9 2018-07-02
Easy. Dexters Lab.
1 TheMadQuixotician 2018-07-02
Stewie, a tomboy? Have you seen the show? They've painted him as gay for the last decade.
1 rbslilpanda 2018-07-02
The tomboy comment was for Meg, as it refers to a female being more into "boy centric" things and or dressing less "girlie".
1 TheMadQuixotician 2018-07-02
Ahh syntax, gotcha

Simpsons was satirizing society and the nuclear family. Like all satire it’s a tongue in cheek warning of what we’ll become. Like most satire, we didn’t pay attention, and in hindsight, it looks like the writers could tell the future. In reality, they just happened to have their fears of what this country would become come true.
1 potterhead2082001 2018-07-02
I just looked in the mirror and I realized you're right because I have penis shaped hair! I am also a loser. Smart but a loser. From now on, I will look at realistic cartoons to emulate in my real life. Thank you
