Pruitt resigns

Scott Pruitt has finally resigned as head of the EPA. I guess even a hideously corrupt, boundlessly greedy, flagrantly destructive, barely functional camel can only withstand so many straws on its back.

“The best people.”
1 TheMadQuixotician 2018-07-05
He is doing a fair job of getting rid of people by bringing them as close as possible. It's been such an established pattern I'm almost inclined to start believing it's on purpose lol
1 ZiggyAnimals 2018-07-05
Your not the only one. I've suspected Trump is getting rid of the worse swamp creatures by inviting them to the whitehouse. Otherwise they would just fly under the radar.
1 55Savushkina 2018-07-05
one of the biggest swamp creatures is the one sending out the invites and appointing judges though.
1 jubway 2018-07-05
That's a goddamn brilliant idea.
You cannot honestly believe that Trump is filling his cabinet with swamp creatures as a method of "draining the swamp," can you?
1 hurtsdonut_ 2018-07-05
47D shoots and ladders!
1 Goru77 2018-07-05
Lol so that's why Trump defends them after he's forced to fire them right? He just defended Pruitt...
1 ZiggyAnimals 2018-07-05
He can't make it public or the swamp creatures won't accept jobs running the country. He has to keep up the illusion so they come out in the spotlight.
1 FadeToDankness 2018-07-05
Or he could just not give them power?
1 ZiggyAnimals 2018-07-05
But how are you going to drain the swamo without having a swamp?
1 AlbanyHockey 2018-07-05
Alternatively, just dont shit on your floor.
1 55Savushkina 2018-07-05
hes doing a great job of shining light on all the cockroaches and making them scurry away with whatever they can grab and take with them.
1 PieLiedv2 2018-07-05
Lmao this is some serious 4-d chess delusion
1 TheMadQuixotician 2018-07-05
1 troy_caster 2018-07-05
I've noticed that too. I'm not sure if it's on purpose. It can't be can it? Seems like everyone he mentions, or gets close to burns up under spotlight. It's crazy. I will stop short of calling it 4D chess though.
1 TheMysteriousFizzyJ 2018-07-05
Sometimes I'm glad our government is incompetent.
1 Palmertabs 2018-07-05
That's just a bad attitude. We should all be rooting for our cou try and president to succeed. To do otherwise is literally "unamerican".
1 Dirk_Benedict 2018-07-05
If the president tries to pursue a dumb or immoral agenda that will be detrimental to the country, then rooting for him to succeed and rooting for the country to succeed are at odds with each other. In that situation, one should root for the country to succeed. Easy choice. Anything else would indeed be un-American.
1 Palmertabs 2018-07-05
This presidents “agenda” is “America first” he ran in a nationalistic platform, he has kept nearly every promise he campaigned on. He hasn’t put any gay people in camps, he ended the policy that separates children from famil that lasted 20+ years. He’s trying to help reunify the koreas. He’s protecting the second amendment (very American). He canceled a steak picnic bode Congress and donated those steaks to vets being treated at Walter reed hospital (bet you didn’t hear bout that) he was awarded the Ellis island award alongside Rosa parks and Muhammad Ali for continued support of legal immigration and immigrants to America. Awarded the tree of life award by Israel for continued support (their most prestigious award). Germany just bent the knee on tariffs of our automobiles I.e. he is fighting to get a better deal FOR AMERICA. He cut taxes for Americans, black unemployment is the lowest ever recorded, female unemployment is lowest in 60 years. Warren buffet and other billionaire hedge fund managers have publicly stated they are very pleasently surprised at the economy and that it is “in rare form”. Obama (only president to never hit 3% gdp growth, ever.) said 1.8% gdp is “the new norm” and that 3% is unrealistic, well we did 3.7 last year and this quarter atlanta fed estimates it at 4.5%. For the first time in the country’s history we have more jobs than people to fill them.
I want to know which one of those things, putting America first, is “immoral”. Because I can think of plenty immoral things that Obama and Hilary did and they didn’t even put their own country first.
1 pimpcakes 2018-07-05
Good. Dude was corrupt as they come.
1 Datasaurus_Rex 2018-07-05
Well looks like Trump wants to challenge that.
Trump Nominates a Coal Lobbyist to Be No. 2 at E.P.A.
Article published in October 2017 but this will currently be the acting EPA director after Scott leaves.....
1 55Savushkina 2018-07-05
do trump supporters like having energy company lobbyists regulate the industry?
do we hire the mafia to enforce the laws?
1 RictusStaniel 2018-07-05
Dude! Don't you know? He's bringing in the lobbyists to drain the swamp! He campaigned on that exact point.... oh wait.
1 Moarbrains 2018-07-05
Didn't MacArthur do this in Japan?
1 55Savushkina 2018-07-05
im not sure. was it a good idea
1 Moarbrains 2018-07-05
I don't know the extent, but the Yakuza were instrumental in keeping order, strike breaking and such after the defeat. They still are.
1 55Savushkina 2018-07-05
so youre in favor of the mafia enforcing the laws?
1 Moarbrains 2018-07-05
What are my other choices?
1 55Savushkina 2018-07-05
the govt
1 Moarbrains 2018-07-05
In Japan, there was no government. What is the mafia up to in the US?
1 pimpcakes 2018-07-05
Pruitt was more corrupt. But this dude sounds just as dumb. That Inhofe stunt was a fascinating display of ignorance.
1 gandalfsbastard 2018-07-05
I won’t be happy until he is in jail. Lock him up.
He is a corrupt corporate cronies like no other.
1 55Savushkina 2018-07-05
attempted corruption should be illegal too.
trying to find a 200k/year job for your wife and misusing public funds should both absolutely be criminal offenses. we have been far too tolerant of corruption in this country, and absolute roaches have moved in to take advantage and push the boundaries.
americans act like we are inherently better than countries like mexico or the philippines or other corrupt countries. We Are Not. We could easily slip into the same type of corruption if we allow it. in fact we will. without checks We WILL become a kleptocracy
everybody stop giving a corruption a pass, even if its on your team
1 Justsaguy12345 2018-07-05
"Absolute roaches have moved in to take advantage push the boundaries."
Wait is that your friends?
1 55Savushkina 2018-07-05
what do you mean?
1 MaryLS 2018-07-05
I think that happened a long time ago. What needs to happen now is to root out the corruption. Pruit was a minor player in this regard.
1 sonlawryan 2018-07-05
Dude was a total criminal, especially when we was attorney general of OK.
1 sonlawryan 2018-07-05

I'm sorry but this isn't a conspiracy... WHY IS THIS SUB TURNING INTO POLITICAL MUMBO JUMBO?!?!
1 mainliningfbs 2018-07-05
A top ranking government official committing crimes is a conspiracy. Why is this sub so in the tank for Trump and Russia?!?!
1 BigPharmaSucks 2018-07-05
How about just fuck the government and all of these corrupt and outdated institutionns.
1 Justsaguy12345 2018-07-05
That's not a conspiracy. The conspiracy is who made him resign and is fluffing up all this stuff to make him look bad.
1 IMA_Catholic 2018-07-05
Fluffing up?
How?
1 RightSideBlind 2018-07-05
Look at who is replacing him.
1 allofusahab 2018-07-05
Only thing that matters is whether the next guy breaks the cycle of corporate influence.
A well-protected and thriving environment is national security.
1 06pbmKC 2018-07-05
This is very true. Not trying to be a downer, but do you really think someone responsible will take his place given the current political scene?
1 cromczar 2018-07-05
Andrew Wheeler will be stepping in and he is an form coal lobbyist, so don't expect anything good...
1 ImpossibleTackle 2018-07-05
Why are we not discussing why he resigned?
In his letter it says that he resigned because of all the death threats e was getting
oh that's why we're not talking about it
1 MarmaladeSki_s 2018-07-05
Revolution isn't so kind to the aristocracy.
1 pimpcakes 2018-07-05
Why aren't we talking about all of Pruitt's actual ethical scandals that forced him to resign, and instead focusing on his proffered reason?
1 FaThLi 2018-07-05
Because it gives people who agree with basically destroying our national and world environment a reason to believe they were in the right. Wasn't his scandal after scandal, it was his security worries everyone was scratching their heads wondering wtf he was talking about.
1 Spicythiefs10 2018-07-05
He is a coal lobbyist so I wouldn't exactly hold my breath
1 PM_me_storytime 2018-07-05
We might have to start though.
1 blobblobbed 2018-07-05
Replacing our coal-dependent infrastructure with nuclear power is the most important thing. The EPA has very little to do with it.
1 Datasaurus_Rex 2018-07-05
Yes, very little to do with it....
1 blobblobbed 2018-07-05
setting public health standards, they're doing the big work alright.
1 Datasaurus_Rex 2018-07-05
This is what you get with no public health standards crazy how private for-profit corporations don't just do the right thing themselves without regulations.
So uh, yea I'd say they're doing big work.
1 Moarbrains 2018-07-05
How about batteries and solar, wind and tide?
1 blobblobbed 2018-07-05
all the solar wind powered tesla batteries in the world would barely put a dent in the power needed to keep our grid up and running. keep dreaming.
1 Moarbrains 2018-07-05
No one is going to build a nuclear plant when they can get the same production cheaper and faster with renewables. Especially when you take into account the ease of upgrading to new tech as it develops. Their is a lot more rnd in renewables.
1 blobblobbed 2018-07-05
20% of our power is aleady nuclear. wind and solar dont even come close.
no comparison. Solar has always been a scam. remember solyndra? same shit. different importer nothing has changed except I swear to god, china is brainwashing people with this solar shit somehow.

Don't look to closely at the difference in the Arctic circle over the last thirty years then. Wouldn't want your bold assurances to melt like several kilometers worth of ice.

That's just the beginning of the fraud. Starting your account from the high point, when there was plenty of ice.

Well, that makes you an expert then. lol
Yeah, I can see you with a ruler, measuring the retreating permafrost line every couple of days.
Meanwhile the official govt studies say something different. The graph that says it all,

Well, the people that back Trump elected him to strip away all of these protections.
Lets be honest, Trump's base wants more coal, more fracking, more mining, more drilling...
Its not like all of a sudden Trump is going to nominate someone with any scientific credentials to restore scientists to the advisory counsels, restore regulations on coal mining companies dumping waste into streams, etc...
Amidst all this Russia crisis, and do not get me wrong, there is plenty concerning in that sphere, people have missed the wrecking ball Pruit has taken to the EPAs attempts to keep our environment clean.
1 Itguy1229 2018-07-05
Hmmm, but I keep hearing that everyone in Trump's administration is as clean as they come and would never be involved in any scandals?? What's this about? /s
1 Justsaguy12345 2018-07-05
Name the scandals.
1 Haydens_Army 2018-07-05
I'll bite.
Flynn, Manafort, Pruitt to name the easy ones right off the top of my head.

1 55Savushkina 2018-07-05
wonder why. people here loved his work
1 plato_thyself 2018-07-05
This has been planned for months. The replacement - Andrew Wheeler - is a lifelong politician, supported by the Koch Brothers, who was most recently a lobbyist for the coal industry.
1 Kbdiggity 2018-07-05
Trump put a climate-change denying, fossil fuel hack in charge of the Environmental Protection Agency. They then launched a war on science, rolled back environmental protections so the coal industry can freely dump wherever they want, and have swiftly caused the United States to become last in clean energy development among major nations.
There is a special place in hell for Trump, Pruitt, and everyone who voted for his confirmation. Our children and grandchildren deserve better than this.
1 Space_Pecs 2018-07-05
No argument from me.
That's solid truth.
You'll get the retard around here that claims that anthropogenic climate change is due to some conflagration of chemtrails and HAARP, but let's be honest with one another - regardless of whether you are a left or right or completely disinterested in either, the climate is getting warmer, correct?
I mean, who disagrees?
1 3attheelephant 2018-07-05
You say that like it hasn't been warming for the last billion years.
1 Space_Pecs 2018-07-05
There was an ice age 10,000 years ago, so no.
1 3attheelephant 2018-07-05
Lmfao so wrong
1 pimpcakes 2018-07-05
Your link discusses greenhouse gases and temperature anomalies going back 800,000 years, which is 1/1200 of a billion years.
Your link states "the paleoclimate record also reveals that the current climatic warming is occurring much more rapidly than past warming events."
Your link states "The predicted rate of warming for the next century is at least 20 times faster. This rate of change is extremely unusual."
Are you trying to pre-rebut yourself? It's a bold move, Cotton. Let's see if it pays off.
1 Space_Pecs 2018-07-05
What do you think that link says?
Do you think it supports your position?
lmfao, indeed
1 3attheelephant 2018-07-05
It says the earth has been warming, putting to rest your stupid argument of "hurr durr there was an ice age so no the earth isn't warming hurr dur durrr"
Lmfao indeed.
1 afire007 2018-07-05
Do you read one line of everything you link and make a conclusion? Thats not how you read boy, you need to go back to grade school.
1 3attheelephant 2018-07-05
You obviously lack basic skills in analysis. His argument said since there was an ice age, the earth hasn't been warming. The article prove it has been. Case closed.
1 afire007 2018-07-05
Thats not what the article says.
1 3attheelephant 2018-07-05
Stop being stupid and take your own advice.
1 afire007 2018-07-05
You literally took the quote and removed the authors conclusion. What the fuck? Thats literally the definition of cherry picking.
This cognitive dissonance is insane.
1 3attheelephant 2018-07-05
Your misunderstanding of the text in the article is laughable. Nice try though.
1 Space_Pecs 2018-07-05
the rare quadrupling down on stupidity.
never thought I'd see the day...
1 3attheelephant 2018-07-05
At least I don't believe the earth hasn't been warming because there was supposedly an ice age 10,000 years ago.
1 Space_Pecs 2018-07-05
Hey dummy. There's nothing supposed about the last ice age. To claim otherwise puts you square into flat Earth territory.
Now, if your about had been - the Earth has gone through heating and cooling cycles for the last 800,000 years, then I'd agree. See 800,000 years is as far back as we can know the temperature via drilled I've cares in Antarctica.
The problem with that argument is that the RATE in which the heating is happening is completely unseen in recorded climate history.
Now, I realize that you're a true dummy, but those are the facts. Do with them as you will.
1 3attheelephant 2018-07-05
You act like the conclusion proves you're right. Fucking learn how to read and comprehend fucking English.

Probably due to his, what?
1 Great_Handkerchief 2018-07-05
Normal corruption and incompetence by one government official is not a conspiracy
It is a run of the mill political scandal that could and has been perpetrated before by politicians of both parties
It is the kind of score one for my team post that has no place here and is frankly boring
1 ireallylikebball 2018-07-05

1 Great_Handkerchief 2018-07-05
You're intentionally playing daft or just plain stupid in either case go away
Pointing out an individual politician's corruption because it favors one party while not pointing the party you favor corruption is dishonest
Not acknowledging that the two party is inherently corrupted because this particular situations\ favors the party youre a fanboy of is dishonest and foolish.
The two parties working together to maintain their hold over this system is what breeds corruption. That is a real conspiracy
These kind of news story posts are just vague enough to turn into yet another partisan shit show designed to reduce the effectiveness of this website

Is Pelosi's husband guilty of insider trading?
In late October 2014, Nancy Pelosi's husband Paul purchased between $100,000 and $250,000 in stock from green energy company Sun Edison. Just three weeks later, the company acquired First Wind, a wind power company. The purchase caused Sun Edison's stock to soar 29%.
Coincidence? Or did Paul Pelosi act on information that came to his wife in her duties as House minority leader?
