NOAA is definatly a scam

So listen up, I'm just a computer scientist trying to do some weather analysis. I don't really believe in consperiacies but my god am I starting to believe that NOAA is just a bunch of horse shit. The data they provide is absolutely hidious and almost impossible to parse correctly. This data apparently comes "directly" from "sattelites" but the data that comes has absolutely NO standard. It is almost like NOAA has taken the extra step to make sure that getting data from their website is just utterly impossible. I find it VERY hard to believe that this data goes into the weather models just because there is NO DOCUMENTATION on the format. HOW ARE YOU GOING TO MAKE WEATHER MODELS WITHOUT A STANDARD FORMAT. ARE YOU TELLING ME WITH ALL THIS TAX MONEY THAT YOU CAN'T HIRE 2 SOFTWARE ENGINEERS TO MANAGE A SIMPLE FILE FORMAT?!?!?!?!?!?

So yea that's why I think it's a scam, just another goverent money black hole that ends up in somebodies pocket. ✌️

Wakey wakey! Welcome aboard, mate!

I look at noaa constantly for hail tracking- i was thinking about making my own hail tracking app. I'd be interested to hear more about this.

ftp://ftp.ncdc.noaa.gov/pub/data/asos-onemin/ ^ that is the data I was trying to work with. ftp://ftp.ncdc.noaa.gov/pub/data/asos-onemin/td6405.txt ^ that is the documentation trust me, depending on what your looking for, its get even worse.

If there is a conspiracy here, it is in the possibility that there are contractors who make a living from making sense of gov data. I've worked with EPA data sets, and census data. They do make it pretty hard to decipher, and yes, it is probably by choice as Im sure there are professionals in those organizations that could make the data easy to access. But once you do decipher it, the data seems pretty good.

Goodluck with your project.

Thank you, very useful!

Also check out stackoverflow and some of the older more targeted forums. Lots of info out there and A LOT of prebuilt libraries as well

Satellites are a hoax and a colossal scam. The data comes from towers, balloons, cables and planes.

Please don't say that outer space is fake.

I don't even know why anybody would want space to be fake. Its the only place left were everything is possible.

And Jupiter just got 12 new moons! But they are very small, so I'm not sure I agree with giving them moon status. But still!

Flat-Earthers. In their Cosmology, the disk of the Earth is vaulted by an ice shield that separates God's Creation from the Chaos Ocean. It's basically Young Earth Creationism Plus.

Oh, is that how the CIA explains it?

You think I wanted to hate starwars? On grew up with it. Now I know it was a mind fuck

Nobody "wanted" it to be fake. We all grew up loving Star Wars and everything else just like you. But it is fake so.. there you go.

Outer space is fake and Don Pettit is the worst actor since Brendan Fraser https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otQt8AEZ1PI

That’s entirely untrue.

Then how do you explain how GPS works? Keep in mind that the signals are Doppler shifted which can't happen with a stationary receiver.

"... fucking magnets, how do they work?".

Bingo

climateaudit.org is a reasonable skeptic site with some pointers to data sets. I don't know whether more recent ones are available.

Hey, they got Irma dead right. All of Florida was in the cone of death and somewhere in FL got hit.

Right off the bat, it's bad science to take data from 100+ year old thermometers on the ground and either average all data, or possibly worse, use interpolation to estimate the temperatures where there are no thermometers, and then compare these numbers to satellites for a global average.

What language are you trying to do this work in? Can you share parts of your code?

Here's the central site for those exposing these scams: https://wattsupwiththat.com/

The models are supercomputers that use data from current observations and weather balloons, which are deployed by select National Weather Service sites in the morning and afternoon daily, and run it through complex physics equations to make predictions. This is the case for scores of weather models which are divided up into ensembles and those ensembles are turned into an average called the OP model. A lot of times they're quite inaccurate, even a few days out however.

you would think a computer scientist would have spellcheck available...

A music video. You are using a country music video sung by a British person as evidence satellites do not exist?

DON PETTIT IS SOOOO AMAZING!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=auZfRGwOM4s

DON PETTIT!!!!!!!!

For the life of me I can't figure out why you keep posting variations of that to me. You could try actually responding to what I say which should be easy for you given how much more intelligent you are compared to every other scientist on the planet.

It's because I know we share a mutual respect and adoration for the very best NASA employee there who's name is DON PETTIT! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otQt8AEZ1PI

You ever going to tell me how GPS works?

NOAA employees have to sign secrecy agreements just like the CIA. Hmm...
