Practicing, devout or otherwise affiliated with church...serious question: how do you defend your faith in light of the news recently and the larger scandals of child rape In the last 100 years or so? Thank you.

One's faith has not a thing to do with this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holy_See
per wiki:
The Holy See is one of the last remaining seven absolute monarchies in the world, along with Saudi Arabia, Swaziland, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Brunei, and Oman.

Ok. I get that sort of. Blind faith? The two can not be mutually exclusive right? One hand is telling you to be good and honest and faithful and the other is raping children and lying about it. How do they reconcile?
The rapists are telling the faithful to be good and honest. Like a cop that steals. Firefighter that is an arsonist. Doctors that kill instead of cure. They are a contradiction.

They aren't responsible for what their leaders do anymore than we are for our politicians. Actually, less so. Because the catholic parishioners don't even vote their leaders in.

Ok, but we don’t really support our leaders AND if they were getting prosecuted for the same crimes, I think their would be riots.
1 mastigia 2018-09-27
Fair enough. And I think we are going that way with the catholic priests. People are slow to move, but I think one day they are gonna snap.

Yeah this post idea is coming from from my Inlaws that ref to discuss and almost laugh it off like it never happened. Trying to understand this better. Thanks

Most people are action oriented. To fully acknowledge that this stuff is going on, and to do nothing, is a bad feeling. Probably feeling along the lines of cowardice. To avoid feeling that way, they ignore it.

I get that. I put myself in that spot and I probably do the same thing. Fucking sad all around. Thanks

We really should support our leaders. Especially if they are great leaders. Cmon.

Elected politicians on generals, from local sheriffs to the DT are not so reliable it seems.

We pray to God, not to pastors, bishops or popes. Yes they are supposed to be a moral guide for Catholics, but the Devil ain’t lazy, he works 24 hours a day. (Stole that from Pokey Lafarge)
Nothing can make up for the evils that these men have done or those who have covered it up for years.
1 LKMKLK 2018-09-27
Cmon cant blame the devil.
1 Mortimus311 2018-09-27
Devil, evil or any other name for the shit that shouldn’t happen, you can choose.
1 LKMKLK 2018-09-27
Yeah totally. If your priest was accused would you feel betrayed?
1 Mortimus311 2018-09-27
I’m not really emotionally attached to any pastors, so I wouldn’t feel betrayed. Pissed off, he’ll yes! I actually hit up different churches in the area, they are each unique and very different, yet they deliver the same message. Some do it better than others.

Been to several, I agree.

that's what the devil would say... hmm

You mean Mary?

The protection built into their monarch-status is the problem in and of itself. No accountability.

1) Never give another Red (rotchild) cent to the Vatican again. Period.

Teachers have sex with students a lot also, should that deter you from going to school?
1 LKMKLK 2018-09-27
Maybe ya
1 legend747 2018-09-27
Well, a large percentage of teachers caught int the act face some form of jail time (the lengths of the sentencing are debatable). Can the same be said for Catholic priests?
1 deadbeforedark 2018-09-27
Once the school found out about a teacher having sex with a minor, did the school try to cover it up? Did they try to intimidate the student that coming forward with this will only end badly for them and their family? Did the school just merely "move" the teacher to another school, where they may be able to assault someone else? Yup, you're right it's the same thing.

Catholics are cannibals.
They literally eat the body and drink the blood of Jesus Christ.
Not cool.
1 whenipeeithurts 2018-09-27
They are practicing Satanism and traditions of men passed down from Babylon. The Christ they are waiting for is the Anitchrist and they will embrace him. They are lost in their self righteousness works based system. So sad.
1 passivehate 2018-09-27
Your faith should have nothing to do with a church.
Read the sermon on the mountain, and compare it to the nicene creed: the two are inherently incompatible.
1 guruft 2018-09-27
I’ve personally stopped attending/supporting the church itself but practice my rosary daily and hold my beliefs to my own accord now. Still with the foundation of thou shall not kill(with the expectation of abortion), love thy neighbor, no other Gods before me(God, meaning both male and female energies)...and my personal favorite, women have a duty to step forward and take control of the society destroyed by male dominance. Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. I interpret that as women are sacred and should be protected if they want to procreate or not. Free thinking religion with the trinity at the center allows new perspectives on old ideas/takes on spirituality.
1 YoshiTakimatsui 2018-09-27
Yeah I don't get Catholics there are so many other versions of Christianity out there way stay
1 Raddishgarsh 2018-09-27
They give their money tothis institution....thats still supporting it. Identifying as a Catholic to your peers also does it. Why do we believe in such harm...
1 StefanYellowCurry 2018-09-27
Priests are to the bible what politicians are to the constitution. Both do a lot of shit against the texts inside of them.
1 deadbeforedark 2018-09-27
I grew up in a very catholic household, my mother being the most devout. They are so indoctrinated, that it will not phase them. Look at some of the answers that say "well we aren't responsible for what the priests do..." well you sure as shit didn't do anything about it. I bet those same people are still giving money to the church too. So when you say that you are not a part of it, you are still funding the church and looking choosing to look the other way. Think about how many sexual assault cases there have been (probably way more than what they make public), and yet you can still see people crowding around the Vatican . It will take much more for Catholics to leave, so I'm hoping this scandal is just the tip of the iceberg of whats to come.
