I stay hopeful that it won't. But it never hurts to look at options. Ultimately you may want to point out that if it is a free service (like this one), they are likely mining data (they need income)... And will lead to meetings demands their shareholders want.
It already has. The decline does not happen fast, but we will see the migration from this site over a period of months as people who are concerned about truth discover new places of open minds and information exchange to freely share without the threat of lunatics trying to control conversation or speech.
I agree. Consider checking out thetanster.com despite everything, a community is coming together around my various platforms and they are educating each other and me. That site is where you can see where my decentralized work lives. Anyone who suppresses my honest G rated work is exposed promptly.
Tanster contacted me and asked me to let you know that she has somehow been blocked from making any further comments. She wanted to respond to the accusation that she is a spammer but now count because she is being silenced.
I hate this false show. Because CENSORSHIP we must have BLOCKCHAIN. blockchain is an absolute evil ALSO. When everything is always kept track of, and based on everything before it, then the storage of these blockchains cannot be decentralized.
Blockchain in finances is the biggest lawenforcement tool ever. Bitcoin is far from anonymous, and thats why its slated to replace cash.
Look at tim berners lee for a non blockchain alternative. His is called SOLID where people hold their own data on internet connected devices. WE pick WHAT info WHO can get. Instead of different privacy settings across many appa, we set privacy settings on our data that the apps access
Look at the math behind it. All transactions by necessity will take a day or longer. This is fine for cars, drugs or other specialty purchases, but to expect this to become the norm for food and other necessities is unreasonable.
Don't get me wrong, decentralization of money has it's place... But I doubt it will ever over take traditional money without substantial overhaul.
> storage of these blockchains cannot be decentralized
Wrong, so wrong, the storage can be decentralized, the only problem is that it will grow to a size that is not scalable. thats why we need techniques like blockchain sharding.
Block chains aren’t really decentralized, or rather that’s not so important, but more disseminated. In order to trust a block chain completely, you need a copy of the entire thing. Ultimately, everyone does, unless you are willing to,gamble a bit with security, which is what happens in practice with bitcoin.
File systems like IPFS, on the other hand, are distributed in that the data isn’t located everywhere, but only (and hopefully) somewhere. Block chains aren’t.
Explain how again? Because you're not making sense. You know the meaning of bitcoin and all other coins following it is decentralisation. Where no one but the decentralised miners choose what goes in the chain, no one entity controls the chain. I don't see your argument here.
Anybody can create a Bitcoin wallet offline in three minutes and have coins sent to it. It's peer-to-peer. Eventually it will be impossible to track.
There's also an advantage to having a perfect record of every transaction. It will make it as easy to prove innocence as guilt. It's actually perfect in that way: private (if you created your own wallet and did all transactions peer-to-peer), yet also providing a perfect record if needed. They can't say, "You sent money to Drug Kingpin X" if you can provide proof that you didn't. It will make it much easier for businesses to do their books and provide a wealth of anonymized economic data for scholars.
It's going to fundamentally change the world, and if you don't get some right now, you'll regret it for the rest of your life because it won't be getting much cheaper, like, ever.
Both! Guylostintheuniverse mentions my reasoning. Blockchain is all about centralization and accountability, which i dont see as a priority of a free people
Dumb. Blockchain ensure no one party can control the world economy(unlike the stock market), and accountability should very much be a priority of free people. No corruption if anyone can check the politicians wallet. No economic crime, no black economy either. Its a honest and transparent system. Which is not what the elites want.
No, because not all cryptocurrencies are based on a decentralized blockchain. XRP (Ripple) is the kind of nightmare currency that one should be paranoid avout for instance.
Ethereum’s blockchain is greater than 1 terabyte. Good luck storing that on your PC in a couple years. At its growth rate you’re gonna need a data center just to hold the full ledger. A truly decentralized blockchain should be able to easily fit on your phone.
If anyone uses the word "blockchain" in the context of replacing any mass-scale technology, you can be assured they don't know jack shit about what they're talking about.
The biggest cringes on the Internet are people talking about blockchains, and the worst cringe are the people with some technical knowledge, because they're the worst at only partially understanding the technical challenges and just hand-waving away the rest of the challenges (if they even know what they are). And that's even assuming granting that a blockchain would be desirable, which it isn't in 99% of the cases for which shallow-thinking people advocate it.
Decentralized social media platform of the future, created on the blockchain is something I've been waiting for, for some time now. I was hoping some alternatives would step up during the zuc+congress faceoff, but unfortunately, still nothing doing. Maybe that was the catalyst that gets it all going, but I'm disappointed I havent atleast heard of some of these things in production. Either way, this is the future and if we don't build this, will have to continue living under the thumb of big business and old money.

Censorship is always a bad idea. It could signal the beginning of the end for this site. I really hope the reddit responsibles will think it through.

I doubt it will change direction. A fresh site would be fun

We all use censorship every day. NDAs, TOSs, hell, your parent scolding you for embarrassing them. Censorship is essential to a civilization.
That said the OP is correct in one regard: if you don't like it, find a service that suits your wants.

Decentralized applications have their own set of problems, namely https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sybil_attack.
1 Raven9nine9 2018-09-30
So I have some questions about blockchain vs censorship. Who pays for the hosting of these huge block chains and where is the data hosted?
1 blazemore 2018-09-30
In an application like Bitcoin, every node on the network holds a complete copy of the blockchain.
1 Raven9nine9 2018-09-30
Is that because there is financial incentive?
1 blazemore 2018-09-30
It's the only way to participate on the network. Individuals can use a web-based wallet, but the real network participant is the service provider running a real wallet.
