In general though, we can all just turn our phones off.

There are ways malware/spyware can make it seem like your phone is off, when it's not.

Its the same thing they do with Samsung smart TVs.

You don't really need a source, if something is possible. It's probably being done, and obviously its really easy to make malicious code that makes it appear your phone is shutting down, when it's not.

No, I hadn't. I remember a plane blowing up in air on the East Coast years ago and some footage of what some folks said might be a surface to air missile. I recall some stories said many witnesses had seen that too. The official story was quite different after the investigation.
