PSA: There's a SpaceX launch in 10 minutes that may put on a hell of a light show in Southern California. It's not a UFO.

Posting this because the last time this happened, the sub was flooded with people asking what the hell it was.

When lighting conditions are right (before sunrise or after sunset), the sun can eluminate the exhaust plume of the rocket, while it remains dark on the ground. This can result in a bright exhaust plume that looks like this.

Just be warned, it's probably going to happen on this launch, too. Additionally, if you leave anywhere near Vandenburg AFB, you're probably gonna hear a very loud sonic boom from the landing.

So cool!

SoCal

BroryTruno please dont shoot this one...

Nice...thanks for the link!

You tried to warn people. Your post is literally 3 posts under 3 "wtf is this" posts...

Thanks!

Nice try, little grey inter-dimensional traveler.

Thanks for the heads up, it was perfect timing! I went out and climbed up onto the roof and there it was, it was so beautiful! Im over 600 miles away too!

its interdimensional spectral aliens

its a ufo for everyone isnt informed.....

Yes haha, I saw it from my balcony. It was pretty awesome, I heard the sonic boom a little bit.

Everyone where I live (SoCal) always freaks out lol

Technically, if the person does not know of the launch, and sees a flying object they can't identify...

Which is why informing them of what it is (per this post) would render it...

Well it WAS a UFO until you had to go and identify it for everybody

I was working and I had a customer come in and say that he saw a UFO. I thought he was full of crap. I didn't see it because I was inside working. But this clears things up.

A giant space sperm

weeweeweeeeeeeeeseeeeeseeee

That's what THEY want you think. /s

Surely if someone didn't see this post then to them it would be a ufo

Stop lying

Thanks for your contribution. I think a lot of people just blindly accept the explanation of, "it was a rocket test" whenever anything strange happens, just because phenomena like what you have mentioned are well understood and documented.

Well, when they announced it in advance, people saw the rocket actually launch, and then saw the second stage create the atmospheric effect while tracking the rocket from the ground to the stratosphere with their own eyes, I don't think anyone is blindly accepting anything.

Y'know?

I am not talking about this incident, just speaking broadly. I'm glad OP made this post.

This is exactly what a UFO conspiracy thing would say...

Sorta makes you wonder how many UFO have just been test launches. Probably more than a couple. Doesn't mean I'm not holding out for some bonafide ETs
