Hello, I just want to hear what everyone thinks about the known folklore of West Virginia, such as the Mothman, Wendigos, or any other that you know of. If you’d like to, please leave a comment. I’d like to hear everyone’s opinion.

Not sure about any of the things you mentioned, but West Virginia is an incredible state to live in. The state has a very bad reputation, but the people here are some of the nicest, most welcoming people you'll ever meet.

What is the folklore of the Mothman and Wendigos though? I've never heard of them, being a resident here for over a decade.

Oh don’t get me wrong, I’m sure West Virginia would be a great place to live. In fact, I might live there myself one day.

As for the Mothman and Wendigos, there’s a lot to cover. Might be easier if you just look them up.

Living in VA i am 100% mothman was a PA thing not WVA, Wendigos are more midwestern ( utah ).

Not sure there is any lore to this parts besides bigfoot

Considering they have a statue of Mothman in WVA, I’d think that the Mothman originated there. Mothman Wikipedia page

Wild, i swear i heard about it happening in PA.

Fallout76 apparently is steeped in West Virginia folk lore.

Yeah, a lot of West Virginia’s folklore can be seen in that game. In fact, the game it what inspired me to do research on the folklore.

People I know that lived in WV swear there are mountain lions there that the state denies that they are. So there is that I guess.

You definitely have mountain lions. We have them here in northern va, they pop up in the news every few years. Last time there was one living by the Costco.

Don't forget West Virginia's numerous "Mounds"...the ancient architecture of 'Merica...existing in West Viriginia for thousands of years.

George Washington's favorite "Mound" still exists today in Moundsville, WV...

A history lost...the "Mounds"...its builders...and the amazing body of knowledge in advanced math & science that was ostensibly lost...

The Knights Templar deeply venerated the "Mounds"...just like their direct descendants, the "Founding Fathers".

For stupid people like me: "venerate: to have respect for or hold in high regard."

Numerous connections betwen Knights Templar and the "Mounds"...but the most obvious is Monks Mound in Cahokia, IL...named for the Templar's Cistercian Monks, who used the site as an encampment on their westward travels.

Thanks for the link! I've done loads of research into the origins of various secret societies and the history of the templars but I had no idea about this! There's always a new angle explore.

Magna Carta - courtesy of Knights Templar, Robert De Ros

Magna Carta 2.0 (aka U.S. Constitution) - courtesy of Robert De Dos (approx) 22nd great-grandson, George Washington

Washington started a "secret society" that statted 'Merica & authored the U.S. Constitution...the Society of the Cincinnati...the original members were mostly Templar descendants...membership passed down to senior male member in bloodline.

The "Templar" exist today...the Society of the Cincinnati...and the Society loves "Mounds"...

And the "mounds" held remains of a race of giants, now almost completely erased from history by design.

"The eyes of that species of extinct giants, whose bones fill the mounds of America, have gazed on Niagara, as ours do now"

Huh?

Listen to the Lore podcast. Plenty of West Virginia folklore and American folklore in general. Great stuff.

Thanks for the suggestion. I definitely have to check that out.

?

This is somewhat related although not west Virginia. I live in Florida and am family friends with a man who is head of a search and rescue unit down here. Most the guys are older or retired, many ex firefighters etc. I had a conversation with him recently and somehow the likes of bigfoot, skunkape, and other folk lore were brought up. I thought he was joking in believing in that stuff but he and many others he's worked with absolutely believe in them. He told me some interesting stories and id be glad to share if anyone is interested.
