Why are we surprised that we're in other countries, raping and pillaging their natural resources? It's one of the first things we did when we found the "new world"

This is why we assume that Aliens are going to invade and exploit us. It's what humans do, and we project that onto everything else.

Yep. It's why most Scifi movies are actually about humans and the fucked up shit we do, not aliens or spaceships.

um, who is surprised?

I don't know... Everyone who posts "Y R WE IN WOR!?"

Because people are short sighted, ignorant, lazy and greedy. No conspiracies here, just people being people.

Half the time I think it's a master-planned conspiracy, the other half of the time I think it's just stupid people who are in power. It's probably something in the middle rather than either/or.

Eh, I don't think the main powerhouses in the world are as coordinated and intelligent as many would like to think. I think they're just as greedy and dumb as everyone else, they were just born into families that allowed them to be greedy and dumb with few repercussions to themselves.

Although I agree, the truth is somewhere in the middle.

It is how empires are built and destroyed.

Except at this junction in human history we have the ability to stop these needless wars. It's not ancient greece. That's the real problem, we're not any more socially advanced. Arguably humans are still to naive for a democracy. Which is why in 20 years or 30 years from now people are going to be asking themselves as I already am, "Why did we waste it all?" As we get force fed everything from the global police state.

There can never be a global police state, but I agree we will still wonder why we plunged back into the dark ages once again.

Religiosity exists, we are still partially in the dark ages.

We're essentially in a police state ... it's just not complete yet.

Probably because people in modern times realize that we have the ability to stop taking advantage of others and exploiting them for our own gain but refuse to do so (or rather govts/corps do), whereas in ancient eras, "might was right" and a show of power was important in establishing dominance over others.

Because Don't you fucking learn anything from history? Or do you just go on repeating the same stupid actions that destroy the world because you can and are too stupid to figure out something new to do?

Light dawns on marble head.
