I've tried to pick people that are interested in the community, that aren't going to treat the community as a testing ground, and are interested in fostering discussion in the subreddit. I've also tried to pick moderators that represent all different facets of /r/conspiracy.

If there is a problem with any of these moderators, and I don't expect there to be one, let me know ASAP and I will try to rectify the situation.

Word. Looks like a good lineup.

edit- take that back. who the hell is sakebomb?

It is an affirmative action thing. He is the token Zionist LOL.

a deep lmao... haha.

"balance"

;)

That would be me :D

Watching you maintain a low profile here is going to be fun. :)

So how do we know that you're a real Zionist, and not a Hamas double-agent?

How do you know I'm not an Israeli agent posing as a Hamas double-agent?

Jeebers, you're good!

see i knew i made the right choice

checks out.

you should do an AMA in here, i'd love to hear your point of view. i honestly can't imagine being convinced to side with your opinion, no offense. nice to see an opposing opinion in here.

Not much to tell. I'm a pro-Israel Jew who holds a disproportionate amount of power and wealth ;)

And I'm sure you use it prejudicially to advance your political and social agenda.

That's the plan!

nothing to tell?!?! first of all, how did you aquire such a vast and "disproportionate amount of power and wealth ;)"?

smiley face included

Mayor of Kiryas Joel, NY???

[deleted]

Why are you not?

[deleted]

Because it's fucking awesome!

[deleted]

There are varying levels of awesome. You just have to decide where you want to be. I recommend somewhere over 9000.

i'm there baby!

great...

Oh, Baruch Hashem. I was scared of soccer taking this subreddit to be another part of his "War on Jews" promotional machine like he does to all the other subreddits he moderates.

Not this shit again.

i'll behave. i promise. ;)

That's the spirit!

Which one of these is Cinsere?

Illuminatedwax. I thought everyone knew that.

I think it is obviously you.

It's ImJulianAssange. HOW DO YOU LIKE WIKILEAKS NOW

Welcome to the gang. Here is your complimentary Illuminati membership pass and an Anunnaki translation codex.

[deleted]

haha hey everyone it's spider man!

Congratulations Mod Squad. Ready for a test run?

After [not very] much deliberation, I felt this would be appropriate.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H33vSYapNNs

ready to roll!

Welcome to all you guys and best wishes for your efforts in maintaining a good community. Thanks to Wax too for a sincere effort to do right.

Here at Hogwarts, you will find an environment rich in experience and learning. Also, do not mind Professor Snape; he's better than you think.

You left donbueno off that list. If I may ask, why do you consider donbueno a good candidate for moderator of /r/conspiracy?

He was a mod of /r/conspiracy from waaaaaaay back in the day.

Why did you appoint him (or her) in the first place? (You've been the lead moderator the whole time, right?) In your opinion, has he done a good job as moderator over the years?

Do you have a sense for how frequently donbueno visits reddit these days? And how frequently he visits /r/conspiracy? And how often he performs moderation duties? Since his continuation as moderator is apparently not in question, I assume you can answer these questions.

Do you have a sense for how frequently donbueno [...]

http://www.reddit.com/user/donbueno

I'm guessing he's being retained as a courtesy for past contributions (for now). Since he's never (to my knowledge) intervened in any significant way here, I see no point in removing him.

We've all (the mods) been invited into a "concensus/quorum" moderation process. I'm pretty sure donbueno won't be barging in wanting to lord over everyone.

He was pretty good a while ago, but I think he's in lurk mode recently. That's why I added mods.

I suspect that one potentially beneficial-to-everyone use of that power, the power to inform via the sidebar, will be neglected. Also, why disable the color flair styles?

I suspect that one potentially beneficial-to-everyone use of that power, the power to inform via the sidebar, will be neglected.

Use of the sidebar is being (and will continue to be) discussed.

Also, why disable the color flair styles?

That was done by illuminatedwax. All of the CSS for the various flairs had been removed from the stylesheet when I got here. (i.e., the code had been completely removed, not "commented out")

Thus, as I explained in my post, the entire subreddit was looking at a dozen instances of plain, unmodified text (all flair choices resulted exactly the same - plain text. there was no CSS associated with the choices). I added the CSS code for the spoiler style, so that there would at least be more than one option. (In doing that, I also deleted the remaining 10 or so plain unmodified text options.)

If you have suggestions for things you'd like to see, I'm of the opinion that a self-post directed to the community (for discussion and voting) is the appropriate approach.

If the community is in agreement on changes, modifications, tweaks, additions, etc... I'm pretty sure the mods will take those suggestions into consideration. (I know that I will certainly take them more seriously if they come from discussion and agreement among the community.)

Can you add the basic colors back again? (Red Orange Yellow Green Blue Indigo Violet). There were many people who chose them as their flair color- thus indicating positive community sentiment.

I'll see what I can do later today. I'm still just sort of waking up this morning, and I have to work today as well. Give me 24 hours?

In the time it took to type that post you could have re-implemented the styles.

Maybe for you, an experienced CSS guru.

I will explain how to modify a flair style so everyone knows. First, there is a 'edit user flair' link for moderators in the admin box. This page lets them see everyone's flair and the style chosen. It also lets them set up 'flair templates' which means specifying a name for the flair style that will then match up to some code in the CSS.

So you have to add a flair template for each style you want to implement, giving each some unique name. Then reddit will check the stylesheet for a CSS class called 'flair-uniquename.' So after adding 'red' to the templates, you then add .flair-red { } to the CSS.

Here are the codes for regular style color flairs:

.flair-red { background: red; color: white; }

.flair-orange { background: orange; color: black; }

.flair-yellow { background: yellow; color: black; }

.flair-green { background: green; color: black; }

.flair-blue { background: blue; color: black; }

.flair-indigo { background: indigo; color: black; }

.flair-violet { background: violet; color: black; }

I'll jump right on that,... on my lunch break. Heading to work now.

On break. Took time to add 3 primary colors for text. Deliberately left out green so as not to confuse with moderator "distinguish". Only added three colors because I discovered mod discussion about flair icons, so this will all probably change pretty soon.

EDIT: you mispelled moco

As long as moderators don't ban subscribers for expressing their opinions, I'm fine with them. The moderators should stay out of the way for the most part, and only intervene when there is some obvious abuse going on, such as harassment of an individual, or an attempt to use the subreddit for advertising purposes.

The moderators should stay out of the way for the most part, and only intervene when there is some obvious abuse going on, such as harassment of an individual, or an attempt to use the subreddit for advertising purposes.

Although he was much more long-winded, that's basically what illuminatedwax told all of us.

as far as I'm concerned the moment someone like RogerStrong or Crackiswackexcept opens their mouth, they should be banned...

We're also discussing how to deal with stalking, trolling, and harassment.

Sarah_Conner suggested something that would be cool, but we have no way to implement it: troublesome users start with negative (-5 or so) karma on every submission/comment and have to earn their way into the positives.

We've already submitted a list of known, troublesome/spamming sockpuppets to the admins and, once we get confirmation from them, those accounts will be banned.

I'm just glad to see that none of the moderators here are moderators on /r/White_Pride :

http://www.reddit.com/r/White_Pride/about/moderators

I notice that some moderators on /r/White_Pride are moderators on /r/911truth

We do have a mod now that is self professed pro-Zionism, can you explain how that is any different?

Pro-Zionism is a little different from hating Jews.

when did white pride mean hating jews?

Check that subreddit. How many of them are anti-semites?

Also, how do you feel about Jews?

I don't give a shit what imaginary line you were born in, I only care about the quality of your character. If you want to celebrate your skin color or geographic region be my guest. Now why don't you answer the question?

I don't think it means hating Jews. But that's what those people feel. They hate non-Protestants and non-whites.

Also, pride's a sin.

Now answer my question: how do you feel about Jews? Minorities?

So? Are you saying the white race can go fuck themselves? Tell me, what's wrong with 'black pride', 'brown pride', 'Indian pride', etc, etc...

edit: This question gets asked repeatedly by countless people like myself, and no one ever answers it. I wonder why...

I think just the same thing is wrong with black pride as is wrong with white pride. We should be proud to be humans, not proud of the content of melanin in our skin. There, someone has answered you now.

I'm against all of those, too. Besides, pride's a sin.

Cool, hopefully none of these mods try to steer the discussion in certain directions like others have and I hope you guys continue to release the spam queue for transparency's sake.

soccer and 9000sins are actively sifting through it now. I will monitor it daily for new things that get caught.

I meant I thought it was cool when they posted it publicly so we could all see what was caught in there.

They're going too fast for me to collect all of that right now.

And, while this may not be the ideal solution, I think just clearing out as much of it as we can is a good place to start (it's overflowing with really old stuff).

I would like to see their qualifications please.

There was plenty of discussion from these people in the moderator request thread. Where were you?

I assure you that we all have tinfoil hats... even the Jew (except his is more like a yarmulke).

Looks like I'm late joining the party, the price you pay for living in a different time zone!

maybe so, but... it's only getting started.

Pass me a beer friend

I'm not a drinker. Want a hit off this blunt?

You know it. I love a good smoke, shame i haven't had one for two weeks!!! Pass the dutchy bro, quickly.

passed, and uptoked!

Hi KGB

I don't see the point in balance. Here's my perspective: I'm a full fledged believer of many of the "theories" that get thrown around on here, and for all intents and purposes, r/conspiracy is a platform from which to spread awareness. a platform that conspiracy theorists themselves should dominate, this is ridiculous...

As far as I know, every single person I chose is invested in conspiracies of one sort or another. That's what their comment and submission history would suggest. Just because they don't like your conspiracy theory of choice doesn't mean they don't deserve a platform.

Then you have not chosen a side, yet you were given a choice when you first discovered consciousness, good or evil...

No I haven't chosen a side, and I don't think the moderation as a whole should.

You have no goals, and do not believe in the power of conspiracy theories to change the world for the better...

I do have a goal: to choose moderators that will best serve /r/conspiracy, and I think I've done that.

With all that's going on in the world I can not understand for the life of me how someone can just sit on the sidelines, and neither admire, nor root for any particular side, opinion, stance, agenda, etc. I find that virtually impossible, it's just not human nature, and frankly, it's counterproductive to the entire human race.

If you aren't part of the solution, you're part of the problem, and a powerful platform like r/conspiracy could, and should be used to try and make the world a better place. Not for entertainment and debate, that's an incredible waste. It should be used to bring others on board, and start a movement so powerful it would be unstoppable. This current format will work against the grain of that ideology, as it needs to be a one sided, totally unfair, PRO-AMERICAN (isolationist) campaign...

The symbolism on the page is off of the American dollar, and it is American politics, and conspiracies that are mostly discussed on this subredit. As is, you've just strengthened a platform from which we can more efficiently bicker with one another, and never make any real progress. There's no such thing as fair in politics, and conspiracy theories, find another full blown Zionist on another conspiracy forum anywhere on the internet that doesn't specifically cater to Zionists and it would blow my mind....

Why does Sakebomb even want to be here? Has he not seen what we post here? Has he not seen a majority of the material? You really think Zionists have a voice here?!?!?! Where's all the pro-Zionist posts then??? There is none, because they don't fucking belong here.

The only reason he took the position was to piss off people like me, he's not gonna do any real moderation without feeling like a Jew destined for Hitlers ovens, believe that. So what's the point? Huh? Admit it, you just wanted to get under a real American patriots skin, because you can't fucking stand us, and are yourself, a Zionist...

Get creative for once why don't you.

Okay. I'll give it a shot...

You never did give me that follow-up info about leaving the US and teaching English as a foreign language abroad. (I have an eidetic memory. Do you?)

hell no, and I'd kill myself if I did. I smoke pot to remedy things like that...

whoosh

Hi CIA

Yesterday upon the stairs

I met a man who wasn't there

He wasn't there again today

I think he's with the CIA

Hi.

... er... I mean... hmmm... how did it leak so quickly?

Just what is expected of this colorful crew? If we are an open community, what are the lines drawn for modship?

I sent the mod team a list of rules; here's a paraphrasing of them.

  1. Don't ban someone just because they espouse any certain viewpoint, no matter how annoying or what that might be.
  2. Don't work to ban users or antagonize them.
  3. Don't remove each other as mods; work together.
  4. Before making any serious changes to the subreddit (CSS, moderation policy, etc.), pitch it to the community first.
  5. Do not ban anyone because you suspect them of being a sockpuppet or part of a voting ring or active in any other kind of reddit abuse. Forward those suspicions to the admin team.

Thanks, so what does that leave them to do?

Mods:

  • Remove spam
  • Remove offtopic/abusive submissions/comments
  • Maintain the sidebar and look of the subreddit
  • Decide if new rules should be added to the subreddit
  • Foster community activity through their leadership

Technically their only powers are the first three; the last two come as a result of those.

bungirl shoulda been a mod

she didnt sign up in the moderator thread nor was she nominated

The same is true of sakebomb69. Why did he become a moderator?

Clearly search is broken. I just linked you to a comment he made in /r/conspiracy, and I have found plenty others.

since when does a comment constitute moderator-ship? Turning r/conspiracy into the United Nations is the worst idea I could ever imagine. Only a posing conspiracy theorist would do so...

Sakebomb, I am your mortal enemy, and I hope you choke on a falafel...

No. He never submitted anything. Not even once.

What happened to Looknottothesky? Why was the reason her mod status was revoked?

looking through their comment history didn't give me a whole lot of confidence in their ability to moderate.

e.g. the user thought a joke ALEX JONES account could possibly be real.

LOL maybe she was just putting him on to see what he said. Either way it's a hilarious reason to demod someone.

They weren't "demodded"; they simply weren't chosen to be a mod. It also wasn't the only red flag I saw in their comment history, just one example.

[deleted]

I believe I have counted at least 3 moderators that regularly criticize Israel. I count one person who (in a very hilarious tone) defends it. What's your problem?

What's my problem? I want to see Zionism defeated, I want to see Palestinian statehood, independence, and prosperity. I want to see the US cut all ties with Israel. I want to see the Jewish banking and Wall Street cartel hanged. I want to see the Jewish state of Israel exposed for what it is; a deceitful terrorist, instigator, oppressor, and enemy of America and free people the world over...

edit: I looked through his comment history and saw nothing related to anything conspiratorial...

This subreddit isn't for "destroying Zionism", it's for discussing conspiracy theories. You'll have to start your own subreddit or subscribe to an existing one if you want a subreddit that focuses on that.

Or feel free to express that opinion in the comment sections.

Funny, the majority of posts are related to just that...

edit: I hate to break your bubble, but there's far more anti-Zionists on this subredit than you seem to be aware of. if you want a truly democratic subredit than the majority rules. what you've created is an experiment: hold the phone, I have several sociology/anthropology students that would like to make this their thesis. (haha).

goodluck, you're either a Zionist or an anti-Zionist, there is no grey area...

You've destroyed this subredit for most of it''s users.

you're either a Zionist or an anti-Zionist, there is no grey area...

Listen to yourself, you sound like the very sort of person you abhor.

Only a Sith deals in absolutes.

I'm self admittedly an extremest, and I'd punch you the fucking face just for shits and giggles, no joke...

Haha. I'm sorry if this is offensive but I had to do it.

all good, I bought that, no doubt. I was pissed off, and just saying what came to mind.

this is me - http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/807/img0124xb.jpg/

I've spent 5 years in prison, and I just happen to be telling the truth...

I wasn't trying to imply anything, that picture always pops up in my head when I see people talking violence online. I'm sure that you really a raging tower of bad ass. =)

not much of a tower, only 5'10". I broke one of my own golden rules though. to not talk shit over the net, simply because anyone can do it. in jail we had a name for people like that. we called them cell gangsters, cause they'd holler all kinds of shit from their locked cells, and never come outside...

In prison it was all about who could beat who, too bad the real world does work like that...

The majority opinion of a subreddit doesn't always create the topic for the subreddit.

Huh? Please elaborate. How exactly does that happen? What exactly are you saying?

are you saying this is a dictatorship? (clearly it is)

You ask for input as to who people would like to see as mods, and installed people we've never even fucking heard of. Clearly you were gonna do what you were interested in the entire time. You have no genuine interests in conspiracies at all, and are here simply to power trip. That's my take on things...

You should simply step aside, and let someone with real interest and respect for deep politics run this subredit, you belong in r/israel, and r/politics...

If a majority decided that /r/conspiracy should now be about cute pictures of puppies, cute pictures of puppies would still be offtopic.

You should simply step aside, and let someone with real interest and respect for deep politics run this subredit, you belong in r/israel, and r/politics...

What the fuck is this step aside shit? I just promoted like 8 moderators. I am kind of amazed people are thinking I am some how ruling this place with an iron grip when I just picked 8 people to guide this place.

I am kind of amazed people are thinking I am some how ruling this place with an iron grip

dieselphiend =/= people

dieselphiend == one person

He's not the only one, is all i'm saying

At least one of which is a self proclaimed Zionist. Where the fuck have you been? Zionists are the enemies of free speech....

You just skirt my questions, and only partially answer them. I don't even think your an American, and I think Sakebomb is a long time friend of yours, and the two of you have been censoring people like me since the beginning. You are a power tripping fraud, and I and many others will haunt you till the day you die. You are anti-progressive towards the real spirit of conspiracy theories, and I think you want people like myself to go elsewhere, i.e. you are intentionally trying to propagate Zionism while squashing all opposition simultaneously with the appearance of democracy. This is not a democratic subredit. But, since I think you want a more pro-Zionist crowd in this subredit, I will lurk, I will lurk, and I will comment, and I will be watching.

Just what the fuck were you thinking? Hiring a Zionist? Zionist's should never have a voice, unless one enjoys listening to lies and deceit, idiot...

Feel free to stay in your own subreddit, then. This subreddit will never be closed off to any particular viewpoint.

It's just beyond reason to give a voice to such a socially and politically conservative person. You're literally talking about men whom still have issues with women's rights, men whom think they are superior to every creed, color, religion, and preference on the planet. Men who served active terms in the Israeli Army on a conquest to "cleanse" Israel of non-Jews. Zionists...

These men do not deserve to have a voice, for it is 2 thousand years old...

see i knew i made the right choice

Clearly search is broken. I just linked you to a comment he made in /r/conspiracy, and I have found plenty others.
