Hey, everyone! I want to introduce you to some of the newcomers who refuse to read links and insist on kneejerking and leaping to conclusions about things they know nothing about. Please give them a big welcome.

In addition to the 3 or 4 people who commented in the linked thread, there were also 15 others who downvoted me for doing my volunteer work.

http://www.reddit.com/r/conspiracy/comments/utdpg/ben_bernankes_office_phone_number_is_2024522955/c4yi7kq?context=10

I'm beginning to hate this job again.

p.s. I hope everyone of them gets shadowbanned by the admins and never learns that they could come here to escape that silent prison. Really.

EDIT: Possibly related?

tl;dr

  • Admins for Reddit got butthurt and shadow banned some commenter for what appears to be a completely inane post or he was shadowbanned long before that post and it was his first in /r/conspiracy. Either way you can't tell because you can't see the rest of their posts to even see if it was justified.

  • /r/conspiracy moderator policy is to ban any account from the /r/ that's been shadow banned by admins because it will fill up the moderator queue.

  • Mods get blamed by asshats in linked thread.

  • Admins are the real asshats with this pernicious system of silencing people with no real oversight.

  • Mods get more questions by more asshats who don't read before releasing their ten fingered diarrhea.

^ This is an accurate tl;dr. (Except the shadowban and bernanke's number are unrelated. A commentor was shadowbanned, not the OP of that post). Nonetheless, Thank you.

Fixed.

Coming from an outsiders perspective it really looks like you're being a tool in this situation. Instead providing a brief explanation you include a link to some long winded post about subreddit drama we may not actually care about. Then out of some misguided sense of nobility you create an entirely new post to vindicate your poor reception (ie downvotes). Yeah in this case you come out looking like kind of a prick.

I can see through a single incident without attributing it to the whole person. You are probably well intentioned and frustrated with a certain trend you see and I guess what I really want to say is you seem to be handling it wrong. I chose this place to comment because NWO broke it down in a few sentences showing that it can be done.

I chose this place to comment because NWO broke it down in a few sentences showing that it can be done.

Initially it wasn't correct, he edited that comment no less than four times before even he got it right.

Yeah in this case you come out looking like kind of a prick.

Good. Yeah. I'm glad I look like a prick for informing people that they've been frolicking around on reddit invisibly for God knows how long.

Yeah. I'm the prick. I deserve all the downvotes I get for even daring to try to correct highly inappropriate behavior (the blind, back alley thuggery of leaping to wrong conclusions and encouraging others to join the circlejerk - when there's a goddamn link there in front of their faces explaining everything, but they refuse to fucking read it).

Yeah. I'm the prick because I don't appreciate being abused for doing volunteer work.

Yeah. I'm the prick.

But fuck you, anyway.

Yeah you know I've done lots of unpaid moderating etc and I don't think I ever thought of it as some kind of noble volunteer work. You keep bringing it up like you're providing entertainment in a pediatric burn center. It's not as cool as you think and it really doesn't command respect when you're putting out such a negative vibe.

I mentioned that I don't attribute this bad attitude to you as a whole person but seemed to go right over your head. I mean it in the best way possible: I'm sure you're a great guy and everything but you're kind of acting like a dick. It's not your charity work that makes you seem like an asshole the is the constantly berating people because they fail to meet your expectations.

If you've ever moderated before you'll realize that the influx of new members who fail to read the FAQ, rules, stickies, etc never ends. If you can't stand it anymore and your blood pressure is out of control maybe it's time to hang up the modhat.

You seem to think you got a raw deal the first time because everyone downvoted you so you created a new post to vindicate yourself. Just move on it happens. It's happening now. You posted this expecting some feedback and you couldn't expect everyone to agree with you. It really doesn't matter what the issue was, your negativity and childish temper tantrums are the reason all your comments were negative.

maybe it's time to hang up the modhat.

Last time someone said this, I did.

I'd hate for you to feel left out.

You should do whatever makes you happy in this world and you don't seem like you're having a good time.

I understand how this works I just think the mod in this case needs to take a chill pill.

Paint me however you want, but i"m no longer a mod and you're now harassing me. Go fuck yourself, okay?

Umm if you create a self-post on reddit theres a chance someone will comment on it. I'm not a lawyer but I'm not sure that constitutes "harassment" o_O Overdramatic much?

NO evidence he posted info though. I think your other points are reasonable , although I would not go as far as to say Admins are ass hats (dont want shadwoban myself)

They want to crap on me for nothing, I'll just stop using their site and if this is some kind of persistent problem, then may be we all should as well.

Some of the mods here like HGT aka contheoryspiracist are kind of asshats as well that threatens IP ban over a PM.

I read that whole thread.

Oh Lawdy

Stalker much?

Shadowbans are a valid and often the best strategy in spam prevention on forums.

For the record, that issue is discussed in the linked post (the originally linked post that is getting ignored here. the one that explains all of this)

Not when they become an arbitrary means of controlling globally on reddit the posts of individuals they disagree with.

Do you have a better solution to the spam problem?

What is going on?

Why was he shadowbanned?

READ THE LINK!

Sorry , Just did. I guess you do not know why the shadowban.

So did you allow the comment , and that is why we can see it?

Yes.

I read the link and still don't know what's going on. Can you please explain this?

I read the link and still don't know what's going on. Can you please explain this?

Since I'm the one who posted the link that you read and couldn't comprehend, then I guess the answer is: No, evidently, I cannot explain it.

I thought you meant the bernanke article link.

Who was shadow banned

The person I responded to. http://www.reddit.com/user/IvanAslan

for what reason

We do not know, because we did not do it.

was anyone banned at all?

Yes. The same user was also BANNED from this subreddit, but NOT as any sort of disciplinary action on our part. Rather, we're just getting them out of our modqueue.

Shadowban == Admin (reddit, inc. employees) action.

Ban == A local subreddit action done by moderators.

There's a difference between an admin and a moderator, AND there's a difference between a shadow ban and a ban. RE-read the link with this information in mind. There are two types of bans in question here (ban and shadowban), as well as two different groups of people (mods and admins).

Can you explain that without being an arsehole?

Probably not.

I honestly think the problem is that a great many people think the admins and the mods are all the same people, raking in 6-figure salaries from Conde Nast. I AM A VOLUNTEER!

Sorry, i didn't know what link you were talking about. I understood what was going on when i read the right thing.

Keep up the good mod work ;)

Thanks.

Good explanation. Thanks, and keep up the good work!

Hey man/woman/alien, whatever you happen to be, don't sweat it, there are still a lot of us who appreciate all the work you put in. Up Vote, Down Vote, really it doesn't matter. Those of us who want to know the truth will dig through mounds of shit to find the one shiny piece of truth and light. Keep up the good work.

If he was shadowbanned , how do we see his comment?

This is a lose-lose situation in a very thankless job. I posted that original self post so that all of the explaining could be in one place and all I'd have to do is post a little link.

Without fail, there are people who want to jump to some conclusion they think they can justify without any knowledge of the matter whatsoever, despite my efforts.

This question is answered in the link, too.

May I suggest , that in future you do not mention the shadow ban but merely include the link. That way they are forced to read it rather than misinterpret the situation as you somehow having something to do with the ban.

So, is this how everyone in our subreddit behaves? Criticising comments which provide supporting citation without actually checking the citation? No wonder this community's reputation sucks so much.

I hope I am not coming across as rude or something. I was just making a suggestion as I could see you were only trying to make your role as mod easier and letting the user know about the shadow ban.

I thought that the downvoters probably did not read the link you posted in the comment and jumped to conclusions.

I don't see a reason to ban somebody for posting the office phone number of a public figure. On the other hand, we have no way of knowing if the number is accurate, and it might just be an attempt to harass some innocent individual due to some personal grudge. For this reason, such numbers should not be posted, and when posted the posts should be removed.

I don't see a reason to ban somebody for posting the office phone number of a public figure.

This did not happen. No one was banned over the posting of the public official's phone number. Although the post was removed for it.

I think that is a red herring right? the banned user did not post the number.

OK, thanks for the correction. I must have read through it too quickly, or missed the sense for some other reason.

or missed the sense for some other reason.

I added context=10 (overkill, but a good release of frustration), because of this confusion.

I assumed (I admit - I shouldn't assume anything, ever) that you'd recognize the message, because you commented in the original post.

Due to the mass influx of new users (and this situation seems to be a resulting symptom), I'm going to discuss a few PSA posts with the other mods. Looks like we need some sort of "welcome to r/conspiracy" introduction to link people to from time to time.

[deleted]

No. I'm a volunteer who doesn't have to put up with your shit.

Sorry, i didn't know what link you were talking about. I understood what was going on when i read the right thing.

Keep up the good mod work ;)

Good explanation. Thanks, and keep up the good work!
