Why is exploring Mars a priority?
0 2012-08-06 by [deleted]
Call me crazy, but it seems like we have other pressing priorities here at home which could take great advantage of the billions of dollars we're pumping into sensational NASA projects.
Maybe somebody can explain why it's more important to send a vessel to Mars, which we have very little hope of inhabiting anytime soon?

Mars had water once, we don't know what happened to it. If we found out what happened to it, then perhaps we can prevent something like that from happening to our planet.
Also the yearly operating budget for NASA is $19 Billion. It takes $20 Billion alone to send air-conditioners to the military tents in Iraq and Afghanistan. It's a penny to every tax dollar that goes to NASA. That's one cent of every tax dollar collected by the government.
You should read this article to see what NASA has actually done to solve pressing priorities here at home:

I think it's something like a quarter of each penny of federal tax money goes to NASA.
1 Pwnzerfaust 2012-08-06
Close. A little over half a penny.
1 SomeNoveltyAccount 2012-08-06
A ha-penny, as they used to call it, well it's nice that the TSA costs 3 pennies out of each dollar, they're totally advancing humanity.
1 Pwnzerfaust 2012-08-06
Oh yeah, definitely. I totally think that the TSA is worth five times as much as NASA...
I really hate our government's priorities.

We gave away more money to bankers in one day than we have given to Nasa in it's life time. Maybe that is something you can bitch about instead.

Do you think all scientific research should stop until "other pressing priorities" have been handled?
2 [deleted] 2012-08-06
We do not send that much money to NASA. This latest rover only cost each US citizen 7 bucks over the course of 10 years. The same as the price (Even less than) for seeing the shitty movie Total Recall.
So no we are not pumping money into sensational NASA projects. If anything, we are letting very very little money trickle into amazing NASA projects that push the envelop of human ingenuity.
And if you can't see why exploring our closest planetary neighbor is important....

This video should do some explaining.

is complicated. really. some motives:
-keep the so called intelligent guys occupied with something. a small percentage of the population is intelligent enough to figure out the scam played at the highest level of humanity. Give them some "higher" purpose in life to keep them out of the way. It become impossible for them to accept that studying higher mathematics, discover the secret of the stars or whatever is less important than figuring out how the human society works and also do something about it. Is like trying to reason with a religious people. Nothing you can say is more important than Jesus or Allah or whatever.
-provide more money for hidden research. Do you think the elite actually diverts money to a real research to send robots to mars? Nope, they just need to take the money from the budget and have a bullet proof motivation. If you say something against this you are automatically a retarded person who doesn't understand the higher purpose of humanity (see above) So many of those people who jumped around in the NASA control center are really believing that rover is on mars based on some stupid simulation on the screen. The easiest to fool is the people who believe themselves very intelligent.
2 [deleted] 2012-08-06
"keep the so called intelligent guys occupied with something" seriously? what an idiot.
"It become impossible for them to accept that studying higher mathematics, discover the secret of the stars or whatever is less important than figuring out how the human society works and also do something about it." Actually, most of them know the very stark reality that * If we do not figure out how to get off this planet... then we will die with it * If we do not figure out how to get more resources for this planet, including what could be a potential ocean of frozen water locked in the surface of mars... then we die with it.
Just because the science you may not understand completely doesn't mean your paranoia needs to govern everything you do. Conspiracy people are always telling people to open their eyes... well open your eyes...

I have mu eyes open but no fucking landing video from mars retard. what the fuck should I watch? some idiotic low quality 3d simulation?
and fuck you, but I know more about math and physics than your retarded brain. now bring some clear color image from mars and we will talk about this crap.
4 [deleted] 2012-08-06
so what exactly you propose film said landing?
Also, why would you add the unnecessary complexity of a low quality video of a landing when it tells you nothing of scientific value?
no, my friend... you don't. i'm about 99.999% sure of that.
-1 conspiracy_police 2012-08-06
who said something about low quality video? you are retarded really. I said PUT A FUCKING AVERAGE CAMERA on that fucking rover that cost 2 billion dollar and film the fucking landing.
now this retarded nutt pretends that a low quality video will prove nothing. Are you fucking kind me? fuck you, really go fuck yourself.
2 [deleted] 2012-08-06
well good... MARDI imaging thumbs/videos should be uploaded here in the next few hours... should be exactly what you are looking for.

ha ha 100x100px what a fucking idiotic image, for fuck sake, how can you believe this crap?
1 [deleted] 2012-08-06

oh.. .there will be high res photos.... there will be high res, 3-dimensional , hyper-spectral photos.... (do you know what a hyperspectral photo is dumb ass?). i see you have no idea what you are talking about.
1 conspiracy_police 2012-08-06
enough talking come back when you have the photos, now get lost
1 [deleted] 2012-08-06
I prefer to know where I am at. Not a fan of "Getting lost".
Also, this is reddit... this thread only stops when you get lost or agree with blatant facts. I have all the time in the world to pester idiots like you.

still no photo.
1 conspiracy_police 2012-08-06
well, we will wait for a photo then.
so you have some other subject to discuss while we wait for nasa to fake some decent resolution photos?
1 [deleted] 2012-08-06
Sure lets talk about how HIV is a fraud.
1 conspiracy_police 2012-08-06
I will prefer those photos to be true but I know they can't do it since there is no fucking robot on mars.
HIV fraud?
I have a Nobel winner that say HIV is a fraud, what do you have?
1 [deleted] 2012-08-06
Kari Mullis... i also have documents where the lead researcher changes the conclusion in the first paper http://fearoftheinvisible.com/fraud-in-key-hiv-research-background
Also got a letter to Science magazine signed by a bunch of Ph.D. asking for that paper to be retracted... http://www.sparks-of-light.org/LetterToScience-Public.pdf
1 conspiracy_police 2012-08-06
yeah, couple of scientist ask for a paper to be retracted because that paper proves they are a fraud and a scam. what an argument.
when those scientist will actually find some evidence to back up their claims then we are talking
1 [deleted] 2012-08-06
boy you must be retarded.... when your lead researcher crosses out the initial conclusion, and then publishes the exact opposite with no evidence to substantiate why... and you have a document, in his own handwriting where he does that... that's typically considered proof.
you're very contrarian.. you should get that checked out.

wait... so what exactly is your stance on this issue... and which nobel winner are you siding with here?

How is it that the matrix explanation gets more votes than the alternative here in r/conspiracy?
Conspiracy theorists: don't let the influx of new viewers alter the nature and quality of this subreddit.
1 sheeeeeple 2012-08-06
Because somehow...logic and common sense happened.
2 tilfordkage 2012-08-06
Blasphemy! Those things do not belong here! Rabble rabble rabble, so on and so forth.
-2 [deleted] 2012-08-06
Distraction.
3 tilfordkage 2012-08-06
From what? Congress is on vacation, so it can't be a distraction from some bill being passed. Really, I understand that there are probably more secrets being kept from us than we can imagine, but not everything is a conspiracy or a distraction. NASA has helped to pioneer many advancements in science and technology, many of which you probably take advantage of. This was done for science and science is done to learn new things.
That's all that this is, just fucking science and learning things about Mars and maybe linking those findings to things on our planet. Jesus people, chill out.
-2 [deleted] 2012-08-06
If you have to ask what we need to be distracted from, then it's obviously worked in your case.
Mission accomplished.
4 tilfordkage 2012-08-06
Then enlighten me oh great wise one. What have they had planned since this mission was conceived and began planning in 2004? Please, since you seem to have an inside source, tell us what is being covered up by something done in the name of science and progression?
-2 [deleted] 2012-08-06
All I wrote was "distraction". You need to chill.
3 tilfordkage 2012-08-06
Okay, I'll give you that maybe I overreacted a bit. Sorry about that. But it does get silly sometimes with people thinking that every little thing is a conspiracy or a distraction from a conspiracy. I get that our government hides a lot of stuff from us, but those that take it too far are only drawing attention away from the real issues and they make the rest of us look like complete nutcases.
1 SomeNoveltyAccount 2012-08-06
