Can someone explain to me how a 71ft diameter parachute could slow a 2000 pound object by 2.8K MPH in 15.4K feet of vertical descent with an atmosphere of less than 0.0043 psi? I don't see how this is possible and this is the official story from NASA on the Curiosity landing.
